U.S. Park Service bans feeding animals because they "will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves." Should the Park Service oversee the Food Stamp and other "entitlement" programs causing dependence as well?

One big difference is that we consider it acceptable when baby deer die from lack of food, or when a wolf tribe can't find enough food and starves.

Some posters probably do not have a problem with American children dying from starvation, or whole communities starving because there wasn't enough food to go around, but the country as a whole DOES have a problem with it.

Also, starving wolves sometimes raid farms. But they never buy guns and join street gangs. If you put human beings into a position where they cannot get enough to survive, they will not simply perish -- they will take up arms against those that have enough.

I generally think of Food Stamp programs and the like as a cheap form of law enforcement, since without it there would be a much higher violent crime rate.

Um starving people never buy guns. Guns costs about $500 and up. You can buy a lot of peanut butter with $500.

They don't join street gangs either. people who are starving don't have the energy to walk down the block, let along hang out with gang members.

But poor people without hope DO join gangs, and they do steal guns. And gangs sell expensive drugs, so they don't even need to steal the guns -- they can buy them.

During the Great Depression, the crime rate for first-time offenders skyrocketed. Some committed crimes because they needed money; some did so because that way they could be arrested and put in jail (where they would get food). Either way, it shows that desperate people do desperate things.

A lot of people on food stamps work; unfortunately, minimum wage is not enough to pay rent, pay to get to work, pay medical expenses, and eat.

The non human animals will get food where they can get it,and so will we. However God has provided free food for the non human animals in the wild. Humans should know this, and then they will use reasoning to not make them dependent on us. Whatever you do will be judged by God. The food given to them by us isn't always the best food either. You have to think of that.

Non human animals? Idk who you call god but the one true God of the bible created us above the animals and gave us dominion over them.

    A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us to "Please Do Not Feed the Animals."

The National Park Service's stated reason for the policy is because the animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves.
