Uncontrollable Giggles - You try to suppress it, but you can't. Does this every happen to you?

It's happened to me countless times in my life. When it happens, I am
usually in a place where it is very inappropriate to laugh...at a
church, a funeral, etc., and it's so embarrassing...lol.

When I
was a child, my father directed a choir in church, and his sister played
the organ. My father made all three of us (me, and my two older
brothers) sit in the choir loft ever Sunday. He had an excellent and
very talented choir, but he had no idea how funny he looked as he was
directing. His facial expressions, hand gestures and signals were
hilarious...especially to children. While my father was busy conducting,
my brother was doing an impersonation of him, and it was just too funny
for words. I remember having an attack of the giggles (my aunt was also
present, and so did she) and the more I tried to suppress it, the
harder I would laugh until tears filled my eyes. Then I would catch hell
from my father when I got home...as did my aunt and brothers....lol.
This was almost a weekly occurrence..

Yes, it has happened to me. Thankfully, it has not happened to me in a TERRIBLY inappropriate setting, yet.

It is a great question, and too bad nobody saw it. I remember being punished for uncontrollable giggling too, as a child. Especially when it was at the dinner table, when my brother and I couldn't help ourselves. Giggling is a wonderful thing, in my opinion, and should almost always be encouraged, not punished. : )

I agree with you 100%, I never punished my children for getting the giggles. Their laughter is music to my ears. We used to get punished as kids at the dinner table as well, and that is another thing I would never do to my children. Dinner is a time for pleasant conversation and the best time to enoy one another as a family. I also believe everyone deserves to eat their dinner in peace...lol. Thank you again.
