The RNC health provider offers end of life counseling (death panels)

RNC Chairman Michael Steele happy group, the RNC, put out research document claiming that the government would 'dictate America's end-of-life care'.

Cigna, the RNC’s health insurance provider, also urges beneficiaries to think about end-of-life services. Cigna’s website has a page called “Care at the End of Life,” which covers topics such as how to talk with “loved ones” about “end-of-life choices” and whether to stop life-prolonging treatment:

The RNC’s insurance provider has posted information on its website advising beneficiaries about the complicated questions that accompany decisions at the end of someone’s life.

Recently, the RNC has been urging lawmakers to support the anti-choice Stupak amendment, which would not only ban women on the federal exchange from using federal funds for abortion, but could bar employer-sponsored plans from offering the coverage. However, Politico reported this week that the RNC health care plan under Cigna has coverage for elective abortion services. Upon hearing the news, the RNC quickly opted-out of the abortion coverage, although its money is still indirectly subsidizing other women’s abortions.

Two contradictory findings on what the GOP says and what the GOP does have been discovered this week in health care alone. What's next folks?

Let me tell you---I find it ridiculous that Americans are subjected to old white men ruling our country. These senators have been in office too long and its time to put a "cap" on how long a senator gets to sit in office. Our country still abides by old English rules and values. Times are changing---I say let us Americans vote to have all of these long term senators voted out of congress and put a cap on their tenures....we need new faces, new ideas, and a fresh start. GET THESE OLD WHITE MEN OUT OF OUR CONGRESS AND GIVE AMERICA A CHANCE TO STEP INTO THESE CENTURY WITH A NEW OUTLOOK!

As for the actual subject---not surprised---very hypocritical of them, but highly expected.

thanks! Sick of men dictating especially the ones still stuck in the 60's and hiding that fact. It's just so obvious that things need to change.

In my opinion dicating end of life care is a diversion. No one is a saying that it would be a good idea for the government to dictate end of life care. The suggested end of life questions in this blog are good ones. Gathering information on these questions is not the same as government dictated end of life care. I can't imagine a member of Congress being in favor of government dictated end of life care and not having difficulty being re-elected.

Abortion is a divisive issue that should be left to personal choice. It is proper for religious organizations to counsel their members on what is and is not consistent with their religious principles. Religious organizations should not be attempting to influence legislation. It wouldn't suprise me in the least if a substantial number of members of
Congress who oppose health care plans with abortion coverage have this coverage for themselves and their staffs.

Thank you Madelisa for keeping us well informed on these topics.

What gets me is this---It seems that EVERYONE has forgotten that CHURCH is suppose to be SEPARATE from STATE!! What the HELL does the church have to do with politics--Hell what these politicians are doing is taking EVERYONE'S freedom of choice away. I am a 41 yr old women and I would never have an abortion, but who am I to tell another woman what to do with her body. If that is the case Vasectomies should be included in that invasive ban of freedom. And another thing---Men need to stay out of the private decisions of women.

Thank you gcruz30. You are so right. There was an editorial cartoon in this morning's The New York Times that makes your point about abortions. In the first picture a man is telling his Congressional representative to stay away from his health care plan and in the second picture he is telling the representative to not allow abortions to be part of health care plans.

When churches get involved in lobbying activities, it seems to me that in many instances they are taking charitable contributions for religious purposes, which are tax deductible, and turning them into non-deductible political contributions.
