We'll see where the police stand as soon as the order to fire on ordinary American citizens comes down from the powers-that-be. We're not that far off based on my observations of recent news stories of federal government entities buying up all of the hollow-point bullets in existence.

Hollow point bullets can do some awful lethal damage. In the right spot, one bullet can kill readily.

I'd have to say "all of the above".There are good cops and bad cops.Being a cop is a tough job.Where would we be without them?

We'll find out just what they are when martial law is declared. If they stand with the pople they are friends of freedom. If they stand with the government they are enemies. I'm betting on the latter, although I hope I'm wrong.

When I was a kid, I was taught the police were my friends. Now they are just thugs and Tax collectors.

I hold them to high regard and sometimes have to work with them...so I have a different perspcetive on them than many...they're just as human than the rest of us..with a job that just so happens to give them the power to enforce the law..:-))

Useful when it's YOU who's in need of them. As with any other group of humans, there are good ones and bad.

Just like the rest of us. Some are good and some are not. Some are bullies that became police officers in order to push people around and others are true heroes that care more about others than they do themselves. You can't stereotype them any more than any others group. Almost every demographic has its good and bad.

It's their job. Some get so tainted by the trash they must handle daily, that they fail. Tey are human.

there to protect the establishment from us. we're fortunate that an essential part of that involves protecting us from each other. it gives the appearance at least that we have an effective police force.

Um Bro I can't say anything nasty about the cops since I am married to a pretty nice lady ex cop. She retired a few years back. LOL :) Sure enough someone would show her this post and then she'd ask a simple question. Don't like cops? Why'd you marry me?

Can be good but can also be bad. The police needs to be regulated so that they don't walk all over the people they are suppose to serve. That said it is a difficult job.

If I were a good guy (as if :-)), I couldn't be a cop. Conversely, if I were a bad guy, I could think of no better job to have.

I could never be a cop. Too many dumb laws on the books.

They're in a very difficult position so often nowadays, with the obsession with civil rights & lawsuits for virtually anything (esp' in the US, whereas I'm an Aussie), & the plethora of people with phones with cameras, always ready to video anything more exciting than someone scratching his/her ass...sure, some would say that if they're not doing anything wrong, then what's the problem with being filmed, but the true context, quality video or audio, or even the ideal angle of a situation isn't always well caught on these phone cameras & they don't always tell the full story...in my 20's, I was quite anti-police down here (mind you, I owned a race motorbike & always had quick cars too, all of which I felt the need to fully exploit, so that didn't help our relations at all back then!!) but I'm mellowing toward them in my 30's & often sympathize with their plight today...

The police are necessary to hold up a society and make sure justice is properly served if someone is harmed. Without police most people would probably still behave but some would not and it would only take a few people not behaving to cause problems. There are some law abiding citizens who probabaly would go out and rob people or commit murder without the police and so the crime rate would probably be much higher.

They are exagerated in the media.

Paid enforcers of societal law. Humans are far too selfish and stupid to obey laws by themselves. IF they WERE capable, we wouldn't need rules, laws, or enforcers. DUH...

How many times do people need to see police departments use violence and intimidation against people who have committed no crimes? How can you continue to support police after seeing them time and time again deny people their constitutional rights. Kicking a woman upside the head when she's sitting down and handcuffed is the action of a punk ass criminal. Killing handcuffed people, stealing, raping. These are the things our police are doing every day. The good cops need to arrest and charge the bad cops or quit their jobs and get away from the bad cops.
