In the South it's a Coke (now); in older days it was a Dope.

I still remember one of my first days working in Fast Food (some 30 years ago), when someone 'not from around here' asked what kind of "pap" we served. I had no idea what they were talking about.

Recently, I've started saying soda and hear it more often that I used to but you never hear pop. I saw another poster said that in the South (I'm in North Carolina) it's "Coke". That's what I was going to say as well, most people will say Coke, regardless of what specific soft drink they're talking about. I know, weird, but I've always done the same.

In Australia, they call it "cool drinks". That could be almost anything.
