Snake with foot found in China [PIC]

An elderly woman in China heard some strange scratching sounds in the middle of the night and turned on the light to find this snake clinging on to her wall with a claw!

strange scratching sounds middle turned light snake clinging wall claw

The 66-year-old lady was terrified and beat the snake to death with a shoe! I might have ran for help! I guess people have different reactions when facing fear. Haha, then she took the snake and preserved it in alcohol. Haha, what a gangsta old Chinese lady!

The snake was 16 inches long and is currently being studied by researchers. I've seen snakes with two heads, but never with a claw growing out it!

this is obviously a snake that ate a lizard and one of the lizards legs busted through its stomach. you can clearly see where the rest of the lizard is inside the snake's stretched skin. nice try with the vestigial leg mutation thing though.

All snakes have vestigial legs. The snakes we see today, their ancestors had legs at one time, but the gene for them was "deactivated." It's possible that a mutation activated the gene and ended in a snake with a foot.

Atavism. Snakes used to have feet. Boas and pythons still have spurs, vestigial "legs", and even a pelvic girdle, so this isn't out of the realm of possibilities, and is even suggested to be quite possible in evolution theory.

Or, it is a really determined dinner trying to escape! ;-)

Strange indeed, however. I would have been too terrified to kill it. I would have just moved out of the house with nothing but the clothes on my back and whatever I could immediately carry out the window.
