A Dj is an integral part of any event where one wants to encourage interaction between strangers - why? Music brings people of all backgrounds together as it has no barriers and it provides a common topic to base a conversation on - an ice breaker!
To start with the Dj should assess the crowd make up and play appropriate easy listening and mellow songs at a low volume. It should be heard in the background allowing guests to socialise without having to speak over it. As time passes and the event organiser feels that everyone has had the oppurtunity to get to know one another the DJ should slowly increase the tempo and the volume - only to cater for the dance floor and NOT fill the room full of music. Thus allowing those wanting to dance to do so, and those that still want to talk to move to the back of the room where the music volume will not be as loud.
