They are really not criticizing his wealth as much as his platform, which has little sympathy for the 99%. Then there was the Swiss bank account (unusual for a President); he was a bully in school; tied crated dog to roof of car for 12 hours, etc. Great pick!
Also, there are poor people who are better read than most of the people you speak to every day. They read Adam Smith's "The Wealth of Nations," Thomas Aquinas, etc.

I know my title sounds horribly insensitive, but that is how sick I am of hearing that because Romeny is rich, we should not elect him President. What do you want some poor, uneducated loser?

You know, money doesn't necessarily make a candidate bad either. If a wealthy candidate understood the concerns of his constituents and wasn't trying to deceive anybody, then he would garner just as much praise from me as the poor man with the intelligent mind. (:
