Yes, when they become incapable. For some this might be 90, for others it might be 50, and for othere it might be 20.

No Age Limit But There Should be a Senibility Test to Make Sure That they Could Drive.

My dad had to take my grandmother's car to keep her from driving because she couldn't see over the steering wheel without pillows or something, then she couldn't reach the pedals.

As long as their driving record is clear, they have earned the privilege of driving a motor vehicle.

person is unable to pass an eye exam with glasses and also has had several accidents then only then should a DL be taken away... Heck WB, 'senior citizen' includes those in their 50s these days!!

Why..the largest % of accidents are caused by young males 18-23. Check the stats. Yes we old folks make mistakes, our timing is off but we are not necessarity the ones at fault. When qwa the last time you say anb oldster texting, cell phones etc.? I'll be 80 on my next birthday and have had one accident and it occured in Jan 1960 on a snow day. How many more years shall I be allowed because of that?

I have no clue what or who you are talking about but rest asure that you will never hear from me again. Please don't think of me as a punk. Someday you may have a little respect for your elders.

I got stuck behind an old lady before. I had about 15 cars behind me and I couldn't pass her. She slammed on her brakes and almost hurt us all.

and you just wanted to go 50 in a 35 mph zone or text or answer your cell or what. You must have been following very close and you would have been at fault.

The speed limit was 55 and she was going about 52. She swerved all over the road too. The car in the back of me almost crashed into me. I'm not an idiot driver.

i would have thought that going 52 in a 55 limit, was about the right speed and she might possibly swerved over the road because you were driving too close and made her feel uncomfortable.....

Well..it'll be kind of unfair if we place an age limit on those who can see very well and are in good shape..but it's better we have it though..just as a precaution..

No, but I think we should be tested every few years, maybe 5, to see if we can still function properly. People age at different rates and setting an arbitrary age for not driving is wrong.

But at age 70 and onward, maybe once a year, they should undergo mandatory perception and reaction testing and if they fail, they should be judged as too old to drive and be told not to drive anymore.

Good for you. I'm nowhere near 70 years old yet (only 24) so I guess I can't judge.

But after a certain age they should have to go in every year to show that their eye sight, dexterity/hand eye coordination are still up to par.

It is hard to put an age limit because not everyone ages the same. I think maybe at a certain age regular tests and physical exams should be required

I think maybe we should do away with the current drinking age and make it 40. We should do away with the voting age and make it 30. It was the young impetus youth that gave us Obama. Us seniors had much more sense.

There should definitely be tests to prove ability after 80 though. Some people have it all together when they're 100; others are mentally deficient or lack the necessary coordination at 75.

Perhaps, after a certain age, seniors should retake the driver's test. I'm approaching the age faster than I'd like, when I could be called a 'senior' so I hope that I can retain my license as long as I can drive safely.

My mother drove into her 80's. She always said that she hoped she'd have enough sense to stop driving when it was unsafe for her to do it. She stopped driving at night first. Then, she limited her driving to going to and from the store--very short trips. Finally, she stopped altogether. I had no trouble being a passenger in her car right up until she decided to stop, so I think she was as safe or safer than most on the road. I hope I can judge my own driving well enough to know when to stop.

There are bad drivers on both ends of the age spectrum. I suspect that teens are more likely to indulge in risky behavior than seniors, though. Doesn't mean that there aren't older drivers who are really a menace out there, but there are a heck of a lot of teens who are. Recently, a teen literally killed himself near where I live (a quiet neighborhood) because he was speeding, raced around a car stopped at a stop sign and ran right into a truck pulling a boat. He hit is so hard that the truck and boat tipped over.

That and young people tend to have more gadgets on their person that preoccupy them, sometimes even while driving. Though my dad is 61 and uses his cell phone while driving every now and then >.>
