Should other SodaHeads tell you what you can and cannot write when responding to their polls?

You!

This is an opinion site, and if you ask a question of the general population here, you're going to hear from a lot of people who disagree, and maybe even some who swear! Gasp and clutch the pearls! SodaHead provides a profanity filter that you can implement if you don't want to see "fuckity fuck fuck, you fucking motherfucker" or whatever. Seriously, what is the big goddamned deal.

I recently had someone go totally off on me because he insisted that I use @$*%& when typing words like "bitchslap" in my responses to his polls. Naturally, I refused, but he continued with this rant, which I promised to publish, so here it is. So what do you think, people- should the easily offended use the profanity filter or should they have the right to make us use @#$%&*^ like a bunch of crabby grannies?

Some people don't have the sense they were born with. There is also the block button if they don't like it.

Everyone should be able to express their opinion. But calling another SH a rude word is unnecessary. And blocking people for an opinion is the lowest of the low.

it doesn't gain anything though does it? Venting on a personal basis doesn't win them over to your argument.

you need to think outside the box. Bush didn't cause the meltdown: banks did. And they are just moneygrubbers who will do what they do if the politicans allow them to by relaxing regulations. This started under Clinton. However, even though Clinton wiped away the regs that doesn't mean that they should do the evil stuff. Did Clinton do it, or did they do it because Clinton made it easier? i go with the "they".
They are evil, Clinton was stupid.

More like just a lot. Back when I used to fart around on email discussion lists I got really good at flame fests. I mean REEELY good.

As it happens I came to SH to hone my 'diplomacy' skills. :-)

I generally never worry about a site's TOS. They're basically like the policy statements you get at work. It's the company's way of saying 'when we get tired of you, you're out of here.' The reasons don't really matter. When you fall out of favor you're toast.

. . .So I try to be as nice as I can (for reasons wholly independent of any TOS agreement), and when they're done with me I move on. I'm here till I'm not.

While I believe that no person should ever be censored for any reason, I also believe a bit of common sense should be exercised when writing your response to a poll. This common sense does not involve profanity or opinions, rather the topic itself. When you write a response, to anything, that response should be on the same topic as the original text.

    For example:

I can almost guarantee that one of the responses to this post is going to say something involving the liberal party. This poll and article have nothing to do with the liberal left and thus they should not be mentioned as a response to this poll. If it comes up in conversation, that's fine, but it should not be used as a direct response. All you are doing is making yourself look like an idiot and declaring your hate for a group of people without any reason to.

Apart from remaining on topic, I see no reason to restrain one's self when responding to any topic. Censorship is death on the internet and must always be kept at bay.

Hey, I am a retired Marine sergeant, and can curse for 15 minutes straight without repeating myself. I have been blocked by several repugs and teabugers who felt they could dish it out, but could not take it. I reserve my efforts for them.

Say what you want, but people do have the right to respectfully ask you to not say things on their polls. There is a profanity filter for people who don't want to see it, and it's silly for someone to make you type symbols to take the place of profanity... but if there's no reason to be profane, why fight about it?
