    It would be nice to have him there to help with the transition having a baby in the house. Plus I want him there so he can bond with his new child.

    A week or two but not a mother's maternity leave, I'll be honest, I think children at that point won't really notice you're working much.

    My wife and I did a lot of tag-team parenting over the years depending on our schedules. Some years I was sort of the primary parent and some years she was.

    Mom needs to rest too especially if the baby is up every 3 or 4 hours during the night.

    my teachers did, he had two weeks i think.
    (of course, if you want the baby to bond with him too, you should probably leave it until about 6 months after birth)

    Certainly, sometimes the mother is in a position where her job is the more important one the household, this is not even getting into situations of widowhood or divorce.
