Should I buy my 14 year old granddaughter a laptop computer for her 8th grade graduation as I did last year for her older sister's high school graduation?

What do her parents say. Although it is the technology generation (I'm surprised they aren't born holding a blackberry) and it most likely would be good for school, but the sister might get bent out of shape if she had to wait til HS grad, and the kid would be exposed to the chat trap sites especially if she takes after her grandfather, but most likely all her friends have one and if her sister is off to college and it would most likely make you one very popular grandfather ..............oh sh*t it's obvious I don't know. We were just lucky that our kid really wasn't into computers. So I'm so sorry that I wasn't any help.

maybe you could get her a turtle instead

I wouldn't yet. In four years God only knows what type of computers will be out there and she will definately need it then. High School Graduation is soon enough. IMHO.

Wait until she graduates high school but get her something cool just not a lop top! That will make the older one jealous that she didn't get one when she was younger!

Yeah, if she is wanting one. Getting any child a computer now-a-days goes right along with the importance of getting them pencil and paper to take to school.

Does she have access to a computer at home?? If so she doesn't need a laptop, but if you have money burning a hole in your pocket and want to spoil her it's up to you.

access home laptop money burning hole pocket spoil

get her a library card, so that way she can learn to open a book once and a while. high school graduates usually have no time in college to go everywhere to use a computer, but high school students have time and other/cheaper options card high school graduates college high school students othercheaper options

no, a 14 year old 8th grader doesnt need a laptop, let her graduate highschool and get some knowledge the old fashion way first.

Have you thought of maybe a cell instead? If there is a computer in the home already than, that may be a better choice. I'm not so sure about a laptop for a 14 yr old. Sure she'll love it. Something to consider though, is a laptop would be harder to monitor than a PC. And what do her parents think about this idea? A lot to consider. I think about my own daughter at 14 and she's been a no worries kid. I wouldn't have wanted her to have a laptop at 14. Mainly because it's kind of much, and a laptop would have been very unnecessary at that age.

I trust your judgment as a parent and can only add - rule on the side of caution when it comes to kids.

haaha okay im gunna be completely honest. thats how i became addicted to porn for a little while & being that shes young and vunerable with webcams and internet and curiosity its easy to drift off down that pathh. all she needs is to hear one person say something about something and next thing she knows shes doing something bad.

btw my mom found out and threw my labtop across a room . like 4 years later i just got my laptop with my own money & i dont even think about "searching the web."

    hahaha sorryy tmi

Fourteen year olds is too young to have their own personal laptop computer, in my opinion. You can give one to me if you want, though.LOL
