I had a neighbor who put a dog leash on her kid when she took him for a walk too. Just because something can be done doesn't mean it should be.

Dogs like it so that's ok. Cats and children don't like it, so leave them alone.

Someone can't tell that cats are different than dogs?! Sheesh. Get glasses then.

You can train a dog, but you can't train a cat. Cats are independent creatures. Cats can get injured being on a leash. You don't own a cat, they own you.

I live in city with two cats and I use harnesses when we go out. I want to keep them safe from the traffic and the people that hate cats. Even on the countryside I don't let them run free because there are too many cat haters around (our first free-roaming cat disappeared at the age of 2 but not before it had been shot twice by someone). If I had the choice, I would build a roomy pen with roof outside: the cats would be safe and free.

It's not cruel. Why is it different than a dog? I think letting your cat wander the neighborhood, get hit by cars, or attacked by other animals is cruel. The cat I have now is an indoor cat, but the first cat I had was outside on a leash all the time. We had a line that ran from our back door out to a far tree. She loved it outside. Start the cat on a leash, and they won't know the difference.

No worries, I wasn't responding to you...just the poll question. ;) I assumed the word "crude" in the poll was supposed to be "cruel." I suppose I shouldn't make assumptions. lol

that's so sad. I am seriously a cat person. I haven't had one since my last died though. We have a couple of dogs atm which I love sooooooo much but it's different with cats. I just have to look at them and I'm attached already.

There is a cure. Get this. I'm allergic to cats, yet I have two of them. To be allergic to just cats and not all animals is to be allergic to their saliva. They clean themselves so much they are covered in it. We bathe our cats weekly. They have even grown fond of it.

I have a cat she goes out side and roams all the time, but I am in the country. I prefered for her to just stay in the house, but she loves it outside. So put one of the animals doors in for her to come and go. She likes it.

No, cats are free roamers. My cat absolutely refuses leashes, she won't do anything as long as you have her strung up. She's too much of a Diva.

A cat that I don't have anymore was terrified of leashes. I think if you start using a leash and harness when they're young, they'll get used to it. I've had cats that don't care. But one of my old cats was terrified of them and another would just sit there like "I'm not going ANIYWHERE until you get this thing off of me!

I tried the leash and harness thing on my cat back when she was 6 days old, thinking that if I trained her young that she would take to the things... it didn't work. She would just lay there and look at me. She would refuse to get up or do anything while I had them on her. Now... heck I can't even put her in her catty-carrybag, she ain't having it. So when I have to take her anywhere I just throw her behind in the car and off we go.

Yeah most of the time when we take the cats places we don't really do anything with them, just put them in the car and go because the whole leash thing wasn't working out.
