Weekly Reader is a weekly educational classroom magazine designed for children in grades Pre-K–12. It began in 1928 as My Weekly Reader and will cease publication in July 2012.
I'm sad to see it go.

Trivia: The magazine is perhaps best known for its presidential poll of
students, which proved uncannily accurate — since it began with Dwight
Eisenhower vs. Adlai Stevenson in 1956, it was wrong only once, in 1992,
when it predicted that President George H.W. Bush would defeat Bill
Clinton (the poll did not include Ross Perot). The 14th poll predicted a
victory by Barack Obama. (source: NYT)

Wow - are they shutting down before the poll?

I hate to see this go away! Did it say why they are shutting down?

Weekly Reader will be merging with its new owner, Scholastic News. Market pressures to create digital editions as well as decreasing school budgets were cited as the main reasons.

Sad to hear them go, but glad to hear they're cutting back on paper and saving trees.

trees are a renewable source - tress used in paper and lumber are planted for such use - have you never heard of tree farms? When they harvest then they replant - omg I can't believe I am explaining this to someone...

Yes, and I've also heard of recycle plants and hemp farms. You can make seven times the amount of paper from one acre of hemp than you could one acre of trees. Hemp is a very versatile resource.

My Weekly Reader was a Progressive rag. The indoctrination began even with that. It took me years to figure that out.
