Shakespeare with a Spanish accent? WTF!
You're too critical.
I don't want any Shakespeare.

I've just seen the first play of my Christmas present--three plays at the Ashland Shakespearean Festival in Southern Oregon. This is a wonderful gift from my equally wonderful 3 children who know I love live theater and have always wanted to attend plays at the Shakespeare Festival.

Romeo and Juliet was one of my favorites as a young woman, but not one of my favorites as an adult. All that angst and young love seems to wear thin in the clear light of reality. The performance was good--well done, professional, etc., but the director's interpretation of having the play set in early California, complete with Spanish interspersed and Spanish accents made the difficult Elizabethan language even more difficult to understand. Give me a break! It's hard to follow the archaic language, but put an accent with it and change some of the words to Spanish?

On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 6.5--call it a B-. Romeo was the best--he actually cried on stage. Juliet couldn't even conjure up moist eyes.

Love Ashland's Shakespeare festival. Good times.

If you ever can, you should also go see Shakespeare at Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe. It is a really cool place. It's an outdoor theater, and the lake is in the background and you sit in sand chairs and bring a picnic dinner, and enjoy an awesome show. We so loved it.

That looks beautiful! Tonight's play was in the Elizabethan open theater. Fortunately, we were just under the overhang for the balcony. It poured for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours--well over 1/2 of the play. They offered rain vouchers, but we stayed, as we weren't getting wet, but the actors sure did, as well as the groundlings.
