You are quite off in your assessment. Being a liberal does not necessarily mean you are sucking on the teat of the government, just like being a conservative does not mean you are not on welfare, on Medicaid and/or food stamps.

What we need in government are a bunch of politicians who look after OUR money like they do their own. Joe Biden hasn't given a dime to charity in years, yet he consistently endorse giving YOUR money to the "poor". I would venture to say, he also supports and employs EVERY tax loophole possible on his own tax returns!

For those who want Republican candidates to furnish ALL tax returns, they should also be demanding the same from their liberal darlings. But then, they don't understand the concept of "all men, created equal"...

This is your Government, A bunch of rich men and women who already have more money than you will every see in your lifetime. And their Salaries of $170,000 for a year. A lucky Average American will make $25,000 a year, and it will take (him or her) 6.8 Years to earn $170,000. Why is it people can't seem to wake up and see that somethings wrong when those who make $170,000 a year can't show they have labored in our behalf. But it is easy to see the 6.8 years of labor and stress in the face of the Average American Worker.

Back in November of last year, I joined SH. Almost no libs were here. The last few months, they started swarming. So yeah, some are paid for sure.

The short answer is I don't have enough information about anyone here to answer that honestly. The longer answer is I think charitable donations statistics show us the most interesting point of view. The people who believe in smaller government, fewer entitlement programs and more personal responsibility are statistically higher donors to charity. Period! That doesn't mean that all the people on SODAHEAD who are left-leaning are on the public dole. I don't know anything about most of the people here who strike me as more liberal than conservative. They might be tax paying, hard working folks. I just know that when you accept that smaller government gives us more prosperity, but fewer entitlements, you accept that part of helping those around you who might NEED the type of help the entitlements offer, means giving locally to ease the transition and reduce dependance overall. I guess, as a rule, I wouldn't look to severely left-leaning folks to find those who give more than they take, though.

Of course it is. The government takes care of you.

It is always easy to be super generous with money you did not earn. Liberals fail to understand that MAYBE the rest of us, who do work, are SICK of them spending ours to enrich the lazy and the very wealthy as obama has done.

I have a Republican neighbor who has her prescriptions sent to Canada, does that count as government largesse even if it is a foreign government?

Don't think so, it's just that the government there didn't make agreements with the pharmaceutical industry to keep the prices high. The government of Canada is not furnishing her drugs; at least it doesn't for any of the people I know who have ordered drugs from there.

Let me give you a little more detail!

In the US the prescription here would cost over $500 a month and these drugs must be taken for life, so she gets the prescription filled out in Canada at a cost of $125 a month!

At the same time she is adamant that she will never support "socialized medicine" as no self respecting Republican would!

Is she a closet socialist or simply a smart capitalist?

I'm aware of the differences in price for drugs in the U.S. and what these pharma companies sell them for in other countries. They make agreements with the countries to sell for a certain price; then make up the difference by raping the American patient who has to take these meds. Just as they negotiate a price for the drugs dispensed through the VA system. They are pretty much given free rein in the U.S. to make up the difference in profit that they are not making elsewhere.

Purchasing drugs from Canada in no way supports socialized medicine. It is definitely the sign of a smart capitalist.

By the way, my sister-in-law was prescribed an incredibly expensive pain medication while suffering from brain stem cancer. The pills were over $3000 a week at their "discount" pharmacy. Her husband found them in Canada for less than $100 for the same amount.

Now, following this to the logical conclusion, the pharma would NOT be cutting their prices to sell in other countries if they were not STILL making some profit at the lowered price. They are at least "keeping the lights on" at these rates. The U.S. population provides their profit.
