I was watching “Worlds
Dumbest” today on TRU TV and the show was called “Worlds Dumbest Hillbillies”,
making fun of white people. To me it was funny as hell and didn’t bother me at
all because I find it humorous to make fun of people sometimes. But! If the show
was called “Worlds Dumbest Wetbacks” or “Worlds Dumbest Spear Chunkers” then
the show would be considered racist and probably be kicked off the air. Sad but
true!

    Using the term 'hillbilly' isn't racist. Hillbilly is used to describe country folk. Actually anyone can be a hillbilly. Most people that are hillbillies are white.

    The term is not based on race, as you must surely know. It is true, that hillbilly could be used in a derogatory way. Considering that there are numerous shows on TV featuring proud self-proclaimed hillbillies, I fail to see the comparison with those other terms you mentioned.

    I have friends that are hillbillies, Hatfields to be precise. They're proud to be hillbillies and I think it's hard to use a term to 'denigrate someone' when they take great pride in it!!! That's the whole thing, it has to offend the group it's aimed at.

    If they did not show a black or hispanic hillbilly, then this is racist. Only because the rules are not fair for both sides. For example you will never see a TV station that advertises to "whites" only. W.E.T tv would be sent straight to the XXX category.
