Purple Squirrel Found in Pennsylvania: Wonderful or Worrisome?

What would you do if you ever came across a purple squirrel? That may have been a hypothetical question a week ago, but now it's a whole different ball game. Because one couple in central Pennsylvania spotted a purple squirrel in their yard -- and they have pictures to prove it.


Percy and Connie Emert keep traps in their yard to keep squirrels away from their bird feeders and one day, the couple saw the colorful squirrel. "I thought, 'Nobody's going to believe me," Percy told the Christian Science Monitor.

Since then, a state game warden has come by to the Emert home and taken leftover samples of the squirrel's fir to test. And one curator at the Pittsburgh Zoo says he thinks it may be a gray squirrel with a tint of purple. "... it looked to me like this animal had come in contact with something with its fur and dyed its fur," Henry Kacprzyk said after looking at the picture of the squirrel on his phone.

Whatever the purple squirrel's story is, it's definitely a unique one. Do you think the fact that there's a purple squirrel out there is wonderful -- or worrisome?
