It is far too soon for a computer, she surely cannot read of heve the skills needed to work on a computer, it is not a good thing, let her be a child first. That is not a good example.

My niece isn't even six years old yet and has her very own iPad (and no, she doesn't have it because she's got an impairment). She's like a little miniature adult. I feel sorry for her.

I hear that the little girl wants to use the user name of "Barefoot Peace and Love" since you claim she has one shoe on. She says that you can be called "Bare Feet, Peace and Love" since you always have your shoes and socks off of both feet! LOL !

Yeah, when I was a kid there was more of a balance, we played video games but weren't totally immersed in technology as kids are today so we still played a lot outside. I rarely see kids play outside now.

i know, it's sad. I too was outside a lot as a kid. Playing with friends on the quiet road, and my parents would often come outside and play with us, tennis or badminton. I honestly never see any parent/s outside playing with their children! Probably too busy checking their stupid Facebook.

Not to mention parents are too paranoid now, when I was a kid/teen we would ride our bikes out in forests and whatnot or on abandoned construction sites where there were lots of dirt to just ride around on or ride along abandoned railroad tracks for miles... now parents won't even let their kids leave the neighborhood let alone explore their town due to fears of kidnapping.

Sure they're safer I suppose, but more likely to become obese.

Did I say it was? In the course of our evolution we will eventually merge with our technololgy. Devises in our bodies and nanotechnology in our bloodstream will prevent illness and injury. They will be necessary for us to live in space, which is were we will eventuallty go. Micro computers inside our brains will give us instant access to information and each other. Scary thought? Our decendents will embrace such changes; indeed, they will have known no other way.

The human being is a tool-building animal. We are unequipt by nature for survival exept for this "big brain" thing in our heads. We CAN'T live without the things that we create for ourselves, and I think that from the very beginning we have been on a course to gradually merge with our own creations and re-create ourselves.

If you are familiar at all with an animated Japanese telivision series called "Ghost in the Shell" I suggest you give it a look. It's a mature program that deals seriously with the implications of such technology.

still, AI should have a fail-safe system of sorts to prevent a rebellion. to leave Artificial Intelligence with the ability to revolt would spell disaster for the human race.

LOL!!! I remember seeing my step-brother sitting on his "potty" in the living room watching tv. I thought that was pretty pathetic at the time (and NO, I never allowed my kids do that) and lazy parenting.
