Peircings for men: Yes or no?

I submit this to you out of curiosity. I have considered getting my left ear peirced (since that is the one associated with heterosexuality) at several different points in my life, but have either been dissuaded by my parents or others. I took a step back and thought about the rediculous double standard in society: Women can peirce both ears multiple times and nobody says anything, but if a man gets one-and only one- he seems to be an outcast or something. Fearing for future job opportunity limitations (I'm an engineering major), and alienation from my family, I'm holding out for now. What do you think about all of this?

One and make it small. I like the little gold hoop earrings.

Nothing against them, but I don't like the piercing of both ears for some reason. Especially when they wear these huge stud earrings or hoops. Stick to one ear with a small earring. Looks more masculine to me.

You're right about the employment thing. It's a buyer's market with jobs now and in the next few years. Either take it out or just wear a little dot at work. When I was young a former boss suggested I not get a tattoo on my wrist, that I would be sorry, and I didn't. Now I'm glad I didn't. With ear piercings you can undo it. Not sure why someone would want a snotty nose ring or mouth ring. It seems like it would be irritating.

I agree for sure. I have a tat hidden on my bicept and even a short-sleeved shirt covers it.

My husband, big bad cop, (hehe) that he is had one. But being a police officer he is not allowed to wear it at work..In uniform. and 20 days out of the month he is in uniform soooooooooooo it grew back up.. you might want to at least consider the job option..for a long time he would wear his on his days off but then he would forget..I guess it would depend on what is really worth to you!

They make clear peices that you put in in place of the ring now. That's a convienient way of flipping off they system, even if invisibly.

Maybe...I find it annoying that people think certain people in certain jobs are not human...You could keep that in mind for yourself.

Knock yourself out. You can always remove the jewelry for job interviews as long as you don't get gauges and stretch your skin out too much. Piercings aren't all that unusual any more and are starting to be accepted as more mainstream.

I used to have long hair that went down to my shoulders.. It looked terrible so I cut it never to grow it back. I couldn't have applied to a grocery store like that and I was a honor's student in high school. It's stupid to me how regulated the appearance of a man is versus that of a woman is in the workplace.

If you live in America, like me. You pretty much have to look like this to get most jobs.
    1950s Man Suit

Things will probably change overtime, though; at least, I hope they do. I'm kind of lucky because I can argue that my beard is a religious requirement (it isn't but it works legally.)

Honestly, a ear piercing may not be a problem in that field; any minimum wage job will probably be more difficult to obtain though.

A lot of my classmates at GA Southern have them. One has tiny gages even. But if I do it, I'm not going over the top. If not, I'll settle for more tats.

You just need to figure out how important it is to you. If it is, do it. If not, get some kick@$$ tattoos.
