The market-clearing price for new 2015 capacity – almost all natural gas
– was $136 per megawatt. That’s eight times higher than the price for
2012, which was just $16 per megawatt. In the mid-Atlantic area covering
New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and DC the new price is $167 per
megawatt. For the northern Ohio territory served by FirstEnergy, the
price is a shocking $357 per megawatt

Because when planning ahead you have to take into account increased cost of construction, energy production and state of the economy. When 2015 arrives these projected costs maybe higher or lower depending on here and then. We just recieved an energy increase from Duke Energy to start paying for a new Nuclear Generator not to be built until 2015/16. The problem with coal is it is becoming an energy source of the past no matter how clean they say they can make it. The Bush administration started this years ago but of course it is popular to blame Obie right now.

Well things change and change is not without pain. The fact is the days of coal fired power plants is coming to an end. The use of coal by American industry has been been growing smaller for years. Maybe it is time to start exporting coal ;ike the Arabs export oil.

Change doesn't necessarily need to be painful but as times change and new processes are found older traditional products are not used anymore. As a commercial fuel source for electric generation the change is causing pain in the coal industry.
As for coal exports, the US is on track to export a record 125 million tons of coal this year. So, yes we have a product other countries want so in the best capitalistic tradition we make money exporting an abundent resource.

So raping our own environment is ok, and China and India spewing tons of toxins into the atmosphere that we all share is ok, and sending our cheapest form of energy production overseas is ok, because that WILL be the great New World Order equalizer. And to top it off, they will only pay a fraction of what we will pay in carbon taxes.

Destroying America (or any nation) is easy when you starve it of energy. obama has tried this with every action regarding energy....vetoing the Keystone Pipeline, restricting drilling on government land, restricting drilling off the coast while encouraging other countries to develop drilling off their coast and giving them money to do so....

Energy is maybe the one subject that proves what a disaster obama is.

The UK used to power their power stations on coal. There was major pollution of the air:
and the cost (which should also be factored in) of respiratory disease was one of the reasons why they embraced natural gas as fields were discovered. Initially the price was high for natural gas because the economics of it on a small scale were not so good, but as the whole nation reverted to gas for much of its power, the price came down, and the air cleaned up.

In 2008 Obama said he'd close down coal production and when he couldn't get Congress to act he got the EPA to act. And he DID say electricity prices would rise. So he did accomplish something --- even if it is bad for everyone. Time to get him out of office!
