Todays stars are so full of themselves, and the best way they see to promote themselves is by being as bad as they can be. The stars before my time had class. The studios would not keep them on contract if they had a bad public image. The actors used to entertain (USO) and support the troops, sometimes even leaving stardom to serve their country during war. For example Jimmy Stewart and Elvis both went to war. Now, many go protest for the other side, and most will not even entertain the troops let alone entertain the thought of wearing the uniform and getting shot at.

I long for the star's of yesteryear! Those people had REAL TALENT! Not like today's untalented hacks. Stick a camera in their face and they think they can act. They can't... they just don't know how, and they don't bother to try to hone their craft either. Acting is a gift and a talent. You have to learn how to craft it. The stupid "actors" out there today just cannot understand this. James Stewart, Myrna Loy, Bogie, Bacall, Bette Davis, James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor, Gagney, the list is endless! Now all we get is mediocrity at best. It is more than sad, it's tragic.

Bogart, James Dean, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, James Cagney... the list is endless. Todays's "Stars" can never compare! That's what TALENT was, NOBODY has talent like that anymore. They don't make 'em like they used to!

I'll take today's actors because I think their style of acting is much more believable. Yesteryear's actors OVER ACTED big time. You watch some of the those old black and white classics, the acting was so over the top that it wasn't even believable. I'm not saying I do not like the classics, I just think some of the acting was too far over the top.

I love old movies, those people knew how to act.
All we have now are the same old tired talentless hacks hollywood shoves down our throats.
I don't ever want to see another move with Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, just to name a few.
There has got to be more talented young actors out there....I just know there are!

The mystery of the old stars, keeping their personal lives quiet, attending galas and doing their self-marketing with class. Did they do a few bad things? Of course they did, but today's "stars" are too busy flaunting their transgressions, showing and telling all, and just acting like pure trash. Whether it's because they are low-class and lack morals, I don't know, don't really care either. What they might care about is my family not buying tickets to their movies because we can see everything they've got, and I mean everything, in the news. Who cares about their performances, I don't. If you want to see the moral decay of America, just look at the entertainment headlines. They're always the first in the bad behavior category and win their Oscars for indecency. They aspire to be traitors to their country during a time of war (Jane Fonda), have babies out of wedlock (way too many to mention), live together (really, really, way too many to mention), and other behaviors that don't give them any class or merit. Granted, there appear to be some stars with moral convictions and it seems to me those are the stars with the best movies. There is a list of these winners out there too, but I think they are in the minority when it comes to Today's Stars.

People-especially when they get older-often like to hanker back to a so-called "Golden Age" And this is true also in respect of film stars, past and present. In fact, there never has been a "Golden Age" as such-every era contains within itself both 'good' and 'bad'
elements. However, the stars of yesteryear's screens do tend to portray a common decency and depth that reflected the values and principles that many ordinary people in those days believed in-but being fallible human beings did not always live up to-,but nevertheless TRIED TO, where as in these shallow times most people seem to believe in very little.
The 'old' film stars often portrayed those 'values' on the screen and hence the difference between them and those 'stars' of today...

The heavy overdose of special effects, lack of real dialogue, poor story that leans heavily on shock and awe to fill in the gaps, etc just seems to put less emphasis on the actors ability to actually act or maybe makes up for the inability of the actor to act, take your pick. I think that's why Quentin Tarantino's movies are so recognized, as he takes a more "old fashioned" path of creation, and tends to cast well for roles -in the movie- not picking stars to carry the movie with their name. My opinion anyway.

Impossible to vote honestly. Today's actors are much more natural than so many of the older actors, but they have less character and no class at all. The oldtime actors were American to the core, they had character and most of them had class. From the '40's through much of the '60's fine movies were made. Beginning in the '60's, I think the movie industry lost its way and its moral center. I quit going to movies in the '60's, and today only watch DVDs with actors I have some respect for. The best actor in the world just doesn't cut it with me if he has no class or if he is a socialist. For me, he is a human first, an American second, employed third, and an actor LAST.

Today's "stars" are wimpy, gutless wonders. Thank goodness for those of today like Tom Selleck, Gary Senise, Sam Elliot, Denzel Washington, and possibly a couple more. These are good actors and also good men.

I have a lot of respect for Gary Senise because he tirelessly performs for the troops overseas in much the same way Bob Hope did. But I can speak from personal experience it is hard to be a conservative actress, or perform in the entertainment industry if word gets out

Please remember Clark Gable and John Wayne.

What I missed most was that the older actors and actress didn't knock the country. That is with the exception of Barbra Streisand and Hanoi Jane Fonda.
