Making IndyCar Racing Safer
In response to the tragic death of Dan Wheldon, IndyCar Series
officials are considering major safety changes for next year's races.
- Strict no-passing rule
- Add fuel tank to cars so drivers no longer have to sit in pool of methanol
- New rule limiting pileups to 14 cars
- Improve soft-wall safety measures by replacing all track walls with four-deep line of fans holding hands
- Requiring paramedic to sit on the back of each car
- Stop racing on those crowded 1/16th-mile ovals
- 9-foot-thick helmets
- Perhaps put an end to the $5 million bonus for creating unbelievably dangerous situations
