Strapping a child into a car seat with a harness so they can hardly move a muscle while driving for hours is not somewhat cruel? It's about safety folks. Something’s just have to be done. If it takes a tether to keep your child safe, then go for it. Then teach them about staying with you, while they are safely remaining in your sight. Yes, some will abuse them, but some abuse everything. Keeping children safe is the most important part.
if you are just going out you should have you kid hold your hand that is what i did with my daughter and it worked. If you are going to a crowded fair or something it could be handy. When I was 2 my family went to the world Fair in Vancouver. there were so many people my mom looked away for one second and I lost her. I ended up fallowing some lady with 5 kids around for a while. The lady noticed she had an extra kid so she took me to the lost kid area where my mom was freaking out. I think in cases like that leashes are handy.
I needed one when my family went to Universal Studios on vacation, because my son tends to wander. Several years ago, it was required to take him anywhere new, but he has slightly more control now. I see no issue with these, as long as they are loose enough so as not to harm the child, but tight enough to protect them from running and getting into trouble.
Only for young children though. Under four sounds okay. Ideally, your child should behave in public, but children have a habit of wandering/running off. Many a time out in public I'll see a child toddling off, with a parent dashing after them. Young children are very curious.
As long as this "leash" is comfortable for the child and not hurting them, I don't see a problem with them. I prefer them to the child that gets pushed around in a pram until they're six, getting fatter and lazier.
harness arn't only for young children i have used a harness or a wrist strap with a 7 year old at the state fair the and it worked out great for me and the child. at first he didnt like it but he under stood if he didnt wear the restraint he would be lead by the arm he qiuckly decided the leash wasent such a bad idea. i know of 10 year olds who dont even look both ways to cross a street. i dont see why a harness is only for littel kids under the age of four children the age of 5,6,7, 8 ,9 and 10. also show some of the same behaviors of younger children such as not beeing full aware of whats going on arond them children are not capable of makeing adult decisions of what is dangerous or not children only think right here right now. a leash is a good idea for any child of any age of at least under the age of 11.
I don't think less of anyone who uses them, and I don't think they do any harm, but I couldn't do it to my own kid. Chasing my 3-year-old (I'm 49) is helping me stay young.
What the hell? I'm not going to do this to a child. The best way is to just keep an eye on the child and if they start running off then run after them and hold them by your side.
Yes, they're animals (not their), as are all humans. Well, I'm taking that back. Some of the answer here are so ignorant that I believe that in some cases the person really must be a vegetable or mineral.
I say all we need to do is bring back Old School Parenting...
because how are they going to learn anything on their own if you keep them confined to your hip all of the time.
Just let them grow up the way we did and learn from thier own stupidity.....
so they can do stupid things when they are older just like us...

come on this is ridiculous! some adults only think about themselves and they think kids are stupid and don't know anything and haven't developed their brain yet or something
I don't think anyone said they were stupid... except for all the people who think that throwing a harness on 'em is gonna make 'em act like dogs, I feel like they're discrediting the intelligence of kids...
But anyway, no, not stupid, but they sure don't know anything to start with, no.
Right, keeping a child from running off into a potentially dangerous situation is the parent just thinking about him/her self. A toddler's brain is not developed enough for reasoning and impulse control. That is a scientific fact.
having a belief is ignorance? science doesn't make sense to me. like clouds, which are supposed to be giant puffs of dust and water, hit each other and make sounds that are louder than mardi gras? and a few pieces of dust created me and everyone who's reading this?

neither one of the links back up either of your false claims.
Thunder is the sound made by lightening. It is the sound off rapidly heated gases expanding. Try blowing up a balloon and the prick it with a pin. Hear that sound. Now multiply that by a thousand.
The bible is the only place that claims that man was made from dust. The bible is mythology. It isn't a science book.
Yeah, not a parent myself, but sheesh, I've done enough watching of the kids for my brother to know that if you're gonna take a three and a one year old out at the same time you need to be pretty much omnipotent. Fortunately, I'm awesome, so I haven't NEEDED the leashes. I also haven't really taken them into the really high population density areas like malls and the such, so I dread the thought of what it would be like watching two tornadoes in a confined space like that.

leashes=pets
Not a tool for lazy parents to stop their child running off whilst they ignore it.

science and science and plus they taught us in science class about both (which is apparently why that's my worst class)

2. I have read tons of science books and almost all of them say that
3. i have not been getting any information from the Bible, except that God created the world and Jesus died on the cross
4. i never meant the Bible at all, i meant i don't believe in evolution
