Jennifer Lawrence Admits She Skinned a Live Squirrel: Rad or Bad?

Jennifer Lawrence must have a thing for squirrels ... and no, we're not talking about "The Hunger Games." The actress recently admitted to Rolling Stone that she skinned a live squirrel as part of her Oscar-nominated role in "Winter's Bone." Jennifer Lawrence said, "I should say it wasn't real, for PETA. But screw PETA." Whoa. Them be some fighting words.

jennifer lawrence

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has now responded to her remarks, with President Ingrid Newkirk telling Gothamist: "She's young and the plight of animals somehow hasn't yet touched her heart. As Henry David Thoreau said, 'The squirrel you kill in jest, dies in earnest.'

"When people kill animals, it is the animals who are 'screwed', not PETA, and one day I hope she will try to make up for any pain she might cause any animal who did nothing but try to eke out a humble existence in nature." So ... whose side are you on? PETA's? Or do you think J-Law was just getting into character when she skinned a squirrel?

I think you need to go back and do a re-write, because as written, it would seem that she was skinning it while it was still alive. Poor word usage. Obviously, it had been a live squirrel, but she skinned it after it was dead-----no big deal.
And HELL YEAH!!! I'd flip off PETA too. I like this girl already.

Skinned a live squirrel? I know, PETA are a bunch of obnoxious a-holes and we are supposed to hate them, but why did the squirrel have to "live"? If someone were gonna skin me, I would vastly prefer that they just kill me before doing so. That sounds awful.

Not exactly rad, but going by the comments it wasn't actually skinned while it was alive? Then I don't much care. It would be sick and cruel had it been alive at the time, but it wasn't.

And seriously, screw PETA. How many animals do they kill a year?

Oh get over it. It was a real dead squirrel, not an alive squirrel. Squirrels are everywhere. I'm sure the species will continue despite the death of one of their own.

And common sense should tell you that alive squirrels are damn near impossible to skin. Ask any animal hunter. They'll explain it to you.
And PETA can suck my dick.

you obviously haven't seen any documentaries on slaughter houses. It shows you just were your daily sausage and bacon comes from. Or how fish are scaled and gutted to make your fried fish, fish sticks, etc.. Or basically how any other kind of meat is prepared to eat. Nothing wrong with skinning and cooking a squirrel.

You don't think I know that ? I find it disgusting , and nothing wrong with skinning a animal ? Are you sick ?

Oh no!!! Don't eat the animals (considering that's what a big portion of what they were placed here for) we must convert to Vegans & eat tree plants.

Because skinning a dead animal is just wrong & disgusting. Try telling that to starving kids in Africa. Save your "Let's Save the Animal!" Speech for Alicia Silverstone she might feel your sympathy...

Animals are placed her for a reason. Hace you read history at all?

It's different if you let the thing be tortued. That's just wrong.

Animals are eaten yes, and that's fine if they die a painless death. And what does history have to do with this ? we don't live in the past

I don't believe a animal should be tortured....So the world no longer eats animals??? We still eat animals just like they did in the past.

what i was saying was that people eat meat all the time. meat comes from animals, it just doesn't magically appear. All Jennifer Lawrence did was prepare a piece of meat for eating. Which is what other people have to do for you everytime you go to the meat department in the grocery store.

I have no problem with meat and skinning animals. I do have a problem when the animals are still alive but hers was dead. However, her comment "screw PETA" just made me like her all the more! Finally there seems to be a celebrity who hasn't jumped on the PETA bandwagon yet.

This subject material needs to be clarified or modified as to if the squirrel was truly alive. If so, then I have nothing but ill wishes on her, role or not.

Well, it's really neither of the choices. I personally wouldn't do it myself but I really detest PETA. They make what should be a personal choice a choice between murder and insanity. They are extremists and extremists are scary scary people. And she didn't "skin a live squirrel" so the question should be worded to remove the suggestion of torture/cruelty, in the name of fairness so results aren't skewed.
