Jennifer Lawrence Admits She Skinned a Live Squirrel: Rad or Bad?

Jennifer Lawrence must have a thing for squirrels ... and no, we're not talking about "The Hunger Games." The actress recently admitted to Rolling Stone that she skinned a live squirrel as part of her Oscar-nominated role in "Winter's Bone." Jennifer Lawrence said, "I should say it wasn't real, for PETA. But screw PETA." Whoa. Them be some fighting words.

jennifer lawrence

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has now responded to her remarks, with President Ingrid Newkirk telling Gothamist: "She's young and the plight of animals somehow hasn't yet touched her heart. As Henry David Thoreau said, 'The squirrel you kill in jest, dies in earnest.'

"When people kill animals, it is the animals who are 'screwed', not PETA, and one day I hope she will try to make up for any pain she might cause any animal who did nothing but try to eke out a humble existence in nature." So ... whose side are you on? PETA's? Or do you think J-Law was just getting into character when she skinned a squirrel?

I think you need to go back and do a re-write, because as written, it would seem that she was skinning it while it was still alive. Poor word usage. Obviously, it had been a live squirrel, but she skinned it after it was dead-----no big deal.
And HELL YEAH!!! I'd flip off PETA too. I like this girl already.

The squirrel probably was not actually alive when she skinned it; that would be animal abuse. Skinning DEAD squirrels is common around the world. I'm not saying I would do it myself, by I'm not going to pin anything against her that's for sure.

No, actually, they didn't. The squirrel was already dead. They didn't kill it for the express purpose of skinning it.

not if it`s alive, hunting to survive is one thing, but to skin it alive ,thats something else.

She didnt skin it alive Obviously. I think everyone should know survival skills.

Yes that is important , but in this day and age ,there are alot of great books on survival skills in different areas of the world that teach about non-poisonous vegetation.
I am not against the killing of animals for meat and clothing.
But I am against it if it`s done only for sport, and of course if the animal suffers a slow death or is tortured before it is skinned. Like when they are skinned alive.
So how can someone skin something alive if it isn`t alive ?

OMG... Have you ever tried to catch a live squirrel??? A dumb ass would think a person could grab a live squirrel and try to skin it.. OMG are people that stupid to think that a human could try this??? Another animal such as a coyote or Wolfe ETC could do this .....But real a person????????????????
  • sandra lin sug... 2012/04/15 08:42:13 (edited)
    sandra
Maybe they could tranquilize or sedate it first, but it would still be alive.
But OMG I guess some people are too stupid to figure out that one to.
I forgot to mention that they could have used simple traps to catch the animal, duh !!!!!!!
Oh and it`s done in China all the time , skinned alive and not sedated....
  • lin sug... sandra 2012/04/17 09:59:12

Yeah right??? The squirrel was dead. They need to get facts straight before reporting dumb stuff......Why would anyone sedate an animal to skin it ???
That is one of the dumest things I have heard... You want to skin something you kill it first.

They skin animals alive all the time in China and then cook them alive. I seen it on a documentary, it was so horrible I couldn`t watch any more of it. Horrible I know ,but this is a sick, sick world we live in.

Nothing against Chinese people but I agree, I love Chinese food, but I am so sure that when people leave food on their plates after a Buffet.
There is no way the left overs get thrown out, no way, they are too frugal for that, Peoples left overs get used to make other stuff like soup , or it`s put back out into the Buffet.
Like I said though , nothing against the Chinese , love em great people, great culture.

I have NO CLUE who she is, and really do not care. The squirrel was dead, she skinned it...and just to be honest here....my Uncles hunted, not for sport. they hunted so the family wouldn't go hungry...and if they killed squirrels, they skinned them, ate the meat.and used whatever else they could from that animal. They also nabbed frogs....*ewwww* but I heard what most of you probably have heard "they taste like chicken!" heh

Very bad and very cruel! I have never liked seeing anything suffer. But, I don't agree with everything PETA does. This girl, Jennifer has a lot to learn and the first thing is to care about Gods creatures and not be so sick minded. I wouldn't watch Hunger games now if you paid me.

It is highly unlikely that LIVE squirrel laid around to be skinned. However, skinning a DEAD squirrel for the pot is pretty common around here.

How in the hell is someone going to skin a live squirrel. First off the way people catch squirrels is to shot them, and they are then dead squirrels. You would have to be one sick bastard to skin a live anything, including a squirrel. Hell, I would say you need to be locked up pronto. Furthermore, I would like to someone try to hold a live squirrel.

People who hunt squirrels do skin them before they cook them and eat them. Personally, I feed squirrel peanuts, and have not interest in killing, skinning, or eating them.

There is a whole push to attack this poor girl, I guess because she is famous, and is going to be part of one of the most popular movie series ever. I have seen her called fat, which is an absolute joke, and now she is a live squirrel skinner. WTF?

But they aren't babies, they are wild animals. Cute they may be, and innocence is a human characteristic. But all of this is irrelevant in this instance because the squirrel was dead. Which is what this thread is actually about, and what I am commenting about.

ya !but it said she skinned it when it was alive. thats just animal cruelty.
They do it everyday in China and other countries to , It is just so heartbreaking.
I hope she didn`t do it. But to all the people who torture animals, I can only wish that the same fate meets with them one day. Humans aren`t more important than animals, not to me anyways. no way . I will never think differently about this. Humans are destroying the planet not the animals.

She didn't skin it while it was alive, the article was written in a deceptive manner to make people THINK that the animal was alive. And obviously, their tactic worked. My comments weren't made in response to China, Africa, Mexico, America, or any other place where animals and people are abused. It is simply about this article and this incident. As for the rest of your comment, you are free to think whatever you like about people and animals. As am I.
