Jennifer Lawrence must have a thing for squirrels ... and no, we're not talking about "The Hunger Games." The actress recently admitted to Rolling Stone that she skinned a live squirrel as part of her Oscar-nominated role in "Winter's Bone." Jennifer Lawrence said, "I should say it wasn't real, for PETA. But screw PETA." Whoa. Them be some fighting words.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has now responded to her remarks, with President Ingrid Newkirk telling Gothamist: "She's young and the plight of animals somehow hasn't yet touched her heart. As Henry David Thoreau said, 'The squirrel you kill in jest, dies in earnest.'

"When people kill animals, it is the animals who are 'screwed', not PETA, and one day I hope she will try to make up for any pain she might cause any animal who did nothing but try to eke out a humble existence in nature." So ... whose side are you on? PETA's? Or do you think J-Law was just getting into character when she skinned a squirrel?

I think you need to go back and do a re-write, because as written, it would seem that she was skinning it while it was still alive. Poor word usage. Obviously, it had been a live squirrel, but she skinned it after it was dead-----no big deal.
And HELL YEAH!!! I'd flip off PETA too. I like this girl already.

I think it wrong to harm or kill or an animal for a TV show or movie. I see skinning a dead animal as neither rad or bad.

Besides the squirrel was dead part, attempting to skin a LIVE squirrel will get you some real nasty bites, clawing, and general overall pain. As for the squirrels, they nothing but a furry tailed rats, but can be tasty when young.

I think rabbits are better because they live primarily on clover and other greens as opposed to seeds.

Most people eat burgers, fish, chicken etc. It is ok to kill what you eat. But not just for fun or sport

I don't support PETA. And I do love Jennifer. Though personally I think skinning any animal, dead or alive is wrong. I highly doubt that they killed the squirrel for this specific purpose.... Not sure what to think. But how is what she did any worse than what most other people do? Like eat meat for instance? Or own leather? Or fur?

I have a right because I can make a knife, a trap, and can successfully hunt the things. And what the hell other purpose would I do it for? Every act a person does is on behalf of the self. Even so-called selfless acts are done for self satisfaction.

The squirrel was already dead. It was roadkill. They didn't kill it for the express purpose of Ms. Lawrence skinning it. PETA should stick to defending against domestic animal abuse. That's where they do the most good without sounding like a bunch of cranks.

If she would have actually skinned a "live' squirrel, that would have been quite sick. But, skinning an animal harvested for food is normal. You eat chicken, beef, fish? They didn't grow that way at the super market you know. Squirrel really isn't bad, as rabbit, pheasant, or deer.
Also consider, to many, and I mean many, squirrels are not these cute little things simply trying to "eke out a humble existence in nature." but are little more than tree rats, highly destructive pests. Shave off that fuzzy tail and think about what one look like.
Screw PETA, those people need to get a life in the real world. Humans are carniverous, we evolved this way, it's why we're at the top of the food chain, get used to it.
