Jennifer Lawrence must have a thing for squirrels ... and no, we're not talking about "The Hunger Games." The actress recently admitted to Rolling Stone that she skinned a live squirrel as part of her Oscar-nominated role in "Winter's Bone." Jennifer Lawrence said, "I should say it wasn't real, for PETA. But screw PETA." Whoa. Them be some fighting words.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has now responded to her remarks, with President Ingrid Newkirk telling Gothamist: "She's young and the plight of animals somehow hasn't yet touched her heart. As Henry David Thoreau said, 'The squirrel you kill in jest, dies in earnest.'

"When people kill animals, it is the animals who are 'screwed', not PETA, and one day I hope she will try to make up for any pain she might cause any animal who did nothing but try to eke out a humble existence in nature." So ... whose side are you on? PETA's? Or do you think J-Law was just getting into character when she skinned a squirrel?

I think you need to go back and do a re-write, because as written, it would seem that she was skinning it while it was still alive. Poor word usage. Obviously, it had been a live squirrel, but she skinned it after it was dead-----no big deal.
And HELL YEAH!!! I'd flip off PETA too. I like this girl already.

I highly doupt the animal was really ALIVE when she skined it. They probably ment a real squirrel as compared to a fake squirrel.

as in BAD ASS!!! Anyone who will publicly say "Screw PETA!" is okay in my book!
She probably meant a REAL squirrel, not one that was still alive! They'd never allow a squirrel that was still alive to be skinned alive for a movie.

I didn't think they would in the United States. If they did, the creators of the movie should be taken to task for animal cruelty as well.
And while I don't like PETA, anyone who skins live animals is NOT okay in my book. They are sick sociopaths who should be incarcerated.

I'm not sure why the squirrel wasn't dead before skinning but hats off to her, many women don't even know how to cook any longer--this sexy wildcat will kill it, skin it and then cook it.

I'm never on PETA's side. But as a hunting, fishing and wild life enthusiast, I have to say that under no circumstance would I skin any animal alive for any reason. That's just cruel and unnecessary.

I was going to say Rad but after reading about her actions and words I think it stinks....Don't get Mrs. P's boy wrong....I used to hunt for meat and have skinned animals as a result but alive???? WTF????? WHY?????
She seems really out of touch with reality and the beauty of nature. Another Hollywood bimbo shining bright.... wel maybe not so f*ckin' bright.

I have killed many squrrels,and skinned them for food,but to do it for a movie,or kicks is just sick,especially a live one.

oh honey it would have been rad if the thing was dead, I'd have been cool with it then. I think we need to stop relying on technology so much and learn nature skills just in case. But a live squirrel sorry, can't be on board with it.

There is such a thing as treating all living things with respect.. but come on, the squirrel may not be able to defend itself, but if the roles were reversed and it was a polar bear? I doubt the bear is going to pause and be like "oh this isn't humane" before eating you.

We like to think we are, but are we in reality? We have different intelligence, not always higher intelligence. We are in reality just other mammals existing on the planet - supermarket meat comes from animals too, and sorry.. just because it's called hamburger and not 'wild cow' doesn't mean that animal spent time at the Hilton before arriving on your platter. That is what's in inhumane to me, factory raised and altered animals existing soley for the pleasure of humans who supposedly have a 'higher intelligence'. Animals have existed far longer than humans and will probably be here far after we humans with our smarts kill each other off with our constant drama and conflict.

Skinning a live creature, whatever it is, is cruel and bloodthirsty. Skinning a dead critter, which I HAVE, is a whole different ball of wax.

Surely she did not skin a live squirrel. I cannot believe that- she must mean one was shot out a tree and killed and then she skinned it, when it was still warm but dead. Nobody would skin a live squirrel unless they were a card carrying sociophobe/psychopath...
