I don't understand how black people go around calling eachother that but if a white person does it world war 3 starts to break out. It's simple: if you don't want to be called that, don't call yourself that.

I don't think of it as being racist, but I tire of the use of the word.

It is very much like, I can put down my family members for whatever, but don't you!!!

Sorry, i hit the wrong button again. :-(

If one claims another to be racist, then they need to not turn around and do the same thing. So many are fond of the word "whitey". So who is the racest? This is exactly why I didn'[t care for the JEffersons. George was such a racist, but no one ever found it necessary to chide him.

"Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame" - Laurence J. Peter

It's a "Double Standard" for only one group to use a 'word' (actually a tool, or weapon) while others are forbidden to even think of it, there the Former using it is pure HYPOCRISY.

A double standard is the application of different sets of principles for similar situations, or to different people in the same situation. A double standard may take the form of an instance in which certain concepts (often, for example, a word, phrase, social norm, or rule) are perceived as acceptable to be applied by one group of people, but are considered unacceptable—taboo—when applied by another group.

There is a distinction to be made between double standards and hypocrisy, which implies the stated or presumed acceptance of a single standard a person claims to hold himself or herself accountable to, but which, in practice, may be disregarded. Being hypocritical to the double-standard is then a positive example of hypocrisy as well.

If a "black" person uses it under any context and has any problem with a non"black" person using it in the same context, then it is racist.

"you wanted to know..." Wrong. I didn't ask any question.
I already know why they can use it and *they think* it isn't racist. But the fact is that it is.

I don't particularly have any problem with your statement. It's just isn't relevant to my comment.

    The original question:
Is it 'racist' when a black man uses the 'N-word'?

    My comment:
If a "black" person uses it under any context and has any problem with a non"black" person using it in the same context, then it is racist.

I think it's very ignorant. I also think that after all these years that the black community has tried to change the word to something that it was not years ago. Language and meanings of words change. I am uncomfortable with it and don't think the word should be used at all. I talk to the young black men in my neighborhood about it - but I am a middle aged white woman. What do I know? ' )

No word is racist. It is what people want to put it's meaning too. Why isn't idiot a racist remark, or moron, or whitey? The question is if a black man said his name is Niger, would you call him Niger? So words have no real demeaning. It is what you are brainwashed to believe.

    Agreed!

And until such time as blacks cease referring to themselves by that word, should they expect whites to do likewise?
