Is the Zombie Apocalypse Upon Us? (The Internet Thinks So)

In the wake of a series of gory incidents, the Internet has been lighting up with claims that we are in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Skeptical? Well, let’s take a look at the evidence from the last few weeks.

1) A naked man chewed off the face of a homeless guy in Miami. The attacker growled at police officers and continued eating skin even after being shot. It took four more bullets to kill him. 2) A Japanese artist removed his own genitals and served them at a restaurant to the highest bidder. 3) A Maryland man confessed to killing his housemate, chopping him up, and then eating his heart and part of his brain. 4) A New Jersey man repeatedly stabbed himself and then threw pieces of his skin and intestines at the police.

And that’s not all. Newsweek and The Daily Beast have compiled a “Zombie Instances” Google map, which is keeping track of these incidents and other “signs” of the zombie apocalypse -- such as the recent cases of flesh-eating bacteria.

Though many of the zombie apocalypse claims have been made in jest, the Centers for Disease Control issued a serious response. A spokesman told the Huffington Post, "CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead . . . or one that would present zombie-like symptoms." So, what do you think SodaHeads? Is the zombie apocalypse upon us?

Actually, there is a very tiny parasite that can get into an ant, control its brain, and make it hang on a strand of grass so it'll get eaten by a rabbit and continue the parasite's life cycle. And, when you think of it, it does seem possible that a certain virus can mutate into a new virus that makes the brain swell and causes aggression, loss of memory, and a feeling of always being hungry. It can't bring back the dead, obviously, but if you think of it in a more non- fiction and scientific way, it does seem possible.
Furthermore, if you think about it, an animal with rabies could be considered a zombie. If you're bitten you get infected, it causes a swelling of the brain that causes agression, eradic behavior, and they attack anything. Maybe a human zombie virus can be like what rabies does, even eventually killing the infected. Think SCIENCE, not FICTION.

I say undecided because it depends on your point of view. People love drama, trends and drugs; add those up and we may have a "zombie apocalypse" just not the raising of the dead.

    Exactly! No undead, just science.
