Is the music played today, better than the music from 70's and 80's?

I don't understand why so many people hate today's music...and lots of the people who prefer the older music tell those of us who prefer today's music that we "have no taste in music". :/ Music changes over time, people need to just accept it. And us younger people grew up with different music than the older people did.

I don't have time to really search for something I really like among popular music today but hitparades don't promise a lot. We get an overload of gangsta lyrics, new stars that look anything but human and it less and less about nice voices and great music! Am I the odd one out? Don't care, I'm old!

Not even in the same category,or relevant to today's music! We dealt with our feelings differently, and hung on,and out in the times we were raised.(I was the T.V. changer,I had a record player, and records.Had a diary, and a pen pal!Had time to think deep about issues, before the next thing became a distraction!)My phone was a rotary phone,no call waiting! It hung on the wall right by the kitchen, where my Mother cooked, and had dinner on the table by 6-6:30pm. (with her eyes in the back of her head!)It wasn't all I wanted, but it inspired me to dream of more! And our music reflected that to me! ~*(;->

That's why I have older songs on my polls. The new music doesn't have the same "passion" as the old music did. Some of the new music might try to grab that, but it's like a rope that has grease on it.

I could go on, but i think you get my point.

Why do I have to be a teenager in the generation that has the stupidest music? I'll admit that some of today's artists are good, but most are laughable.

No. And the eighties were no where near the seventies, and the seventies were no where near the best music ever, that of the 60's!

I like a lot of the oldies, but it does depend on which song compares against which oldies song.

I like the oldies better for the most part, but there are some artists today that are bringing back a good vocal element and a true musical sound to their art. No, auto tuning every song and playing the same 5 notes through a computer is not music, thats right DUBSTEP IS NOT MUSIC!!! it's the same sound my old modem used to make and it sucks!

there is still some decent music but I hate the way they made so much of it boring or whiny chick songs... Even the guys sing things that sound like whiny chick songs.

The older music had better harmonies and many of the musicians were classically trained.

Great question! I am a teenage and I definitely prefer oldies. I listen to Michael Jackson, Queen, Pink Floyd, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, TLC, etc.Classic Rock and Roll is the best besides ol' school R&B;&Rap; back when Rap songs had meaning to it.
I love music from the 1970s and 1980s. People think I am weird for listening to old music.
Old music inspired newer music and newer music is resampled from old music.
Most of today's music isn't as good as music from the '70s and '80s. Adele, Bruno Mars, Beyonce and neo soul are one of the very good singers out these days and I love them especially Adele. But I love MJ, Queen, TLC and Pink Floyd etc more than today's music.

Try Itchycoo Park by the Small Faces. Incense and peppermint by The Strawberry Alarm clock. Cherish by the Association, and one of the first anti drug songs of the 60's Kicks by Paul Revere and the Raiders, for more intense music try King Crimson, ELP, Spirit, YES. Good luck.

My girlfriend and I were just talking about MacArthur Park 2 days ago. Jimmy Webb who wrote it went to MacArthur Park with Linda Ronstadt's cousin,Susan. Boot wearing high spirited rebels standing on a street corner and the low spark the underbelly and the strong undercurrent at the street level.Or something like that.I thought it was about gays in the day. ;)
