Is the music played today, better than the music from 70's and 80's?

Each generation has its own definition of 'good' music ... I'll stick with mine while not maligning the "new stuff".

i like both you can always pick the old music you like but they had some crap back then too.

I mean, there's some musicians out that do their best, and make amazing music. But to be honest, I'd rather rock out to Michael Jackson, or the Beatles, rather than listening to a sorry ass rapper like Tyga, or Rick Ross.

It really depends on the genre. Rock & Roll is as good as it was then. Pop was better in the 70's and 80's. For Christian music it's a wash because although today has more good acts than they had in the 70's/80's they also have more bad acts as well. Country was better in the 70's/80's. Rap/Hip Hop was a baby in the 1970's and just coming of age in the 1980's so today's rap/hip hop is better by only a fraction but still it counts. Overall I'd say today's music can be just as good as stuff from the past and it's an injustice when the best music of today isn't played like it should be while crap machines like LAFMO are promoted and played into oblivion.

There's one that no one seem to remember but I love it - The Partridge Family, singer/actor David Cassidy. I just found out Sony is not paying him royalties when people still buy his music and pictures/photos, etc. It's a sad news. Hope he can be able to make claim for it.

Each decade has its popular singers, songs, groups, hits. I have favorites from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and into the 21st century! From Elvis to Freddie Mercury and Adam Lambert!

I still love the 80s new wave and underground and independent music. Bands like Joy Division, New Order, Christian Death, Skinny Puppy, Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, The Fall, The Cure, Death in June, Modern English, Ministry and so many more, set the standards for music today. The Punk revolution and the post punk movement changed the way I listen to music. I still listen to a lot of industrial acts and alternative bands from today but my heart will always be with the dark years of the 80s.
