Of course it can be. However, the dangers can be drastically reduced if parents are smart about it. Younger kids need to be supervised every time they're on the internet. Older kids and teens should be allowed to use it freely, but the parents need to be internet savvy and attentive (without spying). Because if you are too strict or spy, your kids will feel the need to go "underground" making accounts you don't know about, and if you aren't as internet savvy as they are, you will have no clue what's going on. So don't forbid them from making a Facebook or insist on having their password, for example. DO, however, make an account yourself and request your kid add you. That way they won't feel invaded, but you can still keep an eye on what's going on.

yes, but before anyone gets bent out of shape I'll say this. A plastic bag is also POTENTIALLY dangerous to children. They're children, their own tongue could be the death of them. All it comes down to is supervise your kids.

Its not just the obvious, paedos & porn.

I think its the isolation. Part of a brains necessary growth is proper interaction with other people.

The potential is there, not only for children but adults and everyone in between. The internet is a world of knowledge, some good and some bad.

If younger children aren't monitored, then yeah, I think it could be very dangerous.

Of course it is! it is a veritable mine field full of potentially very dangerous and unsuitable sites which any reponsible parent would be horrified should their child be able to access them, which, sadly, many kids are now doing.

It can be. I live in a state that found a girl missing recently. She is 12 years old. She was talking to a boy in the Internet and they became friends. He is from Canada. Turns out he came to her town and took her with him to go back home. They caught up with him before he had a chance to cross the border. Even though she went willingly he is facing federal charges. She had no clue what this 20 year old was up to. Thank God they caught them.

Of course. If they are not properly monitored and taught how to use it safely it CAN be very dangerous and I am hoping that the 2 people who said No either did so by accident or do not have children and never do.

It's alot easier for kids to see and read things that they can't fully comprehend, but still remember. Also, sex predators are usually very good at talking to young teens and getting them to tell them private info, even send sexual pictures. Parents need to be aware at all times. that's our jobs as parents, to protect them
