I guess I've finally reached that point in my life where I'm the one raising my eyebrows at the new 'trends' youth spreads these days. I keep seeing it pop up everywhere, at first I thought it was used for the ironic ridiculousness of it. You know repeating it for it's own ridiculous sake- but low and behold and more often than not, it's used with serious intent.

stealing the krabby patty secret formula...#YOLO
throwing lamps at people who need to lighten up...#YOLO
many people make abuse of that. Meaning : Go to a party , drink , get pregnant. Why ? " calm down man, YOLO! " And that's not ok, in my opinion.
You know, I have a much better usage for the term "YOLO". Use it when talking about something really safe rather than something risky. Like, "Looked both ways before I crossed the street, YOLO," or "Made sure to drive the speed limit and looked out for drunk drivers, after all, YOLO." :P
