TV is to perverted and filled with trash, to many cheap ass talk shows, I miss the family oriented movies, the westerns, tv is on a slide strait to hell.
It *can* be. It depends what they are watching. Cartoons and trash, no. Informative stuff, yes. But they should still be doing creative play/outside play a lot more than watching tv.
Depends on what you let them watch and how much/often you let them watch.
I wouldn't let young kid watch more than an hour or 2 on weekdays and maybe a little extra time on weekends to reward positive behavior. Actually I think for really young kids it's best used as a reward over being a regular day to day activity. If I ever have kids I'm going to try and brainwash them into being bookworms^_^
This is like asking if Drinking & Racing the Indy 500 is a good idea.
Even the children's shows are mindless nonsense used as a distraction while mom, dad, or the babysitter are doing something else.
For the older Kids, show me a positive values show on the Networks. Reality TV is tripe.
The CSI shows make everyone think most murders are solved on forensics.
Sitcoms are nothing more than one sex pun/conquest after the other with elders as comedy relief.
Sometimes. Not in general because the word "television" nowadays I associate with more commercial and that leads kids ( and not only them ) to "consumerism" .
First, kids these days spend way too much time in front of the boob tube. They would benefit much more running around outside, discovering the many uses of a stick, looking for bugs, playing childhood games and sports with other kids, starting a rock collection, riding bicycles, exploring the woods, building forts, etc. Secondly, there's just too much
crap on TV.
There are,of course, some tv programmes that have a positive influence on children but in my opinion most programmes have a negative-sometimes even malign -influence on them.
It was for me but then we didn't watch much and only watched National Geographic & Wild Kingdom on a regular basis. Oh, and Star Trek now and then. That was it.
That all depends on the show. Sponge Bob I'm told isn't appropriate for little kids but more so for 6 to 10 year olds. I have no problem with my niece and nephew watching Sesame Street though.
There are alot of really shallow shows geared towards kids these days. I try to exclude them, but it's basically impossible. I do instead teach her right from wrong and hope what she learns doesn't overpower my lessons. Pretty much every show on disney is about older kids but geared towards younger ones.
Like everything else, its a mixed bag, some programming can be beneficial, but most of the so called children's programming probably makes kids dumber. I also find it troubling how much more time the tv spends with kids than their parents do.

It still can be. But I feel soooooo bad because Rita Moreno looked sort of hot dressed up as Little bo Peep
Those types of programs.
