A book was recommended to me on this site: The God Virus. I've since read it and have never been more sure that religion truly is the opiate of the masses, and I'm not too big into drugs....

I'm agnostic in that I don't believe human thought is capable of comprehending an existence outside of what we have been "programmed" (for lack of a better word) to comprehend. As that is I strongly do not believe in any religion but I am not at all opposed to the idea that there is more to the existence of all things than can be logically perceived by science and which is not in direct conflict with logic - as it would seem - but adheres to an altogether DIFFERENT logic. Which sounds like madness, but to say this is conjecture is an overstatement. I don't have any more insight into this subject than I believe any else has - which is to say, none at all.

And because I don't plan on arguing with anyone, let me add here that I don't have anything against religious people who adhere to whatever they perceive as being the laws of their faith but who DON'T inflict those laws on others who are not of that faith. Which is a tricky thing for some people and faiths. However, my very best friend of many years happens to be an exceptionally devout catholic - he attends church more days of the week than not and his bedroom looks more like a place of worship than of rest - yet he, as well as being loving and generous, accepts everyone, regardless of their beliefs, race, gender, or sexual orientation, without discrimination.

religion helps bring community together and focus on something bigger than ourselves, but beyond the specifics of a denomination i believe it's the spirituality that matters most.

If you're not sure whether or not you're catholic - then you're not. :P It's not something you're born with. Even if you were baptised, as I was, if you don't believe and practice that faith then you are not catholic.

Baptism lasts forever! You are way too young to make a choice! Life seems very long, but it is like a grain of sand on the beach of eternity!

Well, obviously if I decided I WANTED to be catholic then it would be convenient that I was already baptised but as I don't (and if you read my post somewhere above you'll understand that it's very unlikely that I ever will) it means nothing - to me at least.

With regards to Greek.Guy, surely you don't feel that someone can call themselves a catholic, baptised or not, if they are so vague about their beliefs they are not even sure if they ARE a catholic.

Religion is a big thing that separates people and keeps everyone from uniting and getting along. It's basically saying "I'm different and more than likely better than you".
