It is actually kind of both. The promise that you make is more important that a piece of paper, but that piece of paper shows everyone else that you made the promise.

idk really. its a personal thing and i think its important and way more than a piece of paper. the paper means nothing. there's more to it than that. can't explain it, but theres no love in a piece of paper.

Putting aside the emotional, social and spiritual aspects of marriage, getting married entitles you to literally THOUSANDS of special priviliges and rights that non-married couples do not receive. Perhaps the biggest of these, for most families, is income tax related. Over the 26 years we've filed jointly, my wife and I have saved tens of thousands of dollars. That alone made it worth the trip to city hall to get a license.

Marraige, to me, is important. Its the final leap of trust I am showing my significant other by saying "yes" to the question. You should never agree to be in that kind of a bond unless you are wholeheartedly BOTH in it.

It's obviously important to some people, as it determines many factors regarding hosptial visitation rights, taxation, distribution of property upon death, insurance policies, etc.

I wanna get married but its not that impartant and it is just a piece of paper cause people kill and beat there wifes and husbands and then get married again while they are still married and there is just a piece of paper bonding you lol BUT IT IS IMPORTANT THAT I GET MARRIED AND START MY OWN FAMILY...
