One of the NFL's all-time greats to never win a Super Bowl ring has officially retired. On Monday, five-time Pro Bowl running back and 2006 league MVP LaDainian Tomlinson signed a one-day contract to retire. Tomlinson spent most of his career with the San Diego Chargers, the team that drafted him in 2001, and played the last two seasons of his career with the New York Jets.

Tomlinson never won a Super Bowl ring or appeared in the big game, but his talent was certainly championship level. His popularity was on another level, too, as a fan favorite throughout his career. In 2009, he broke the single season touchdown record for a running back with 29. He appeared in two AFC Championship Games and is the NFL's fifth all-time leading rusher. While he had a less than smooth exit from San Diego due to GM AJ Smith wanting to move in a different direction, at least this relationship looks to have a happy ending.

For better or worse, “L.T.” was always honest and took it upon himself to be the team leader. With his level of game, how could others not follow his lead? Tomlinson ends his career with 13,684 yards and 145 rushing touchdowns—second all-time. He also has 162 total touchdowns, ranking third in league history behind Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith. So what's the verdict? Is L.T. a Hall of Famer?
