Pizza (as we in the USA know it) is not Italian. It uses some ingredients that might have Italian connections, and is somewhat similar to some Italian foods. Now with all the international mixing of foods, you can get pizza in Italy that is similar to pizza here. If you get pizza in Italy that has no American influence... not good. (at least from personal experience)
