It all depends on how you say it and why. If you are truthfully telling them that you don't find them attractive, fine. If you are doing it to tear them down...that isn't right.

When it comes to personal questions like that, they are really looking for a compliment, if your true opinion is that they are ugly, it hurts their feelings.

When they ask questions like that it shows insecurity. Insecurity is an ugly trait in a person. So, not only are you being truthful on their looks, but you're telling them something about their personality, as well.
I think more people should be 'mean' and not sugar coat it, so maybe people will stop asking those questions.

If you go seeking attention, regardless of the method, you must be willing to accept that it is going to find you from ALL angles. Not just the ones you WANTED. Especially when an individual is PANDERING. This is why I have little or no sympathy for celebrities. They wanted the fame and attention.

I usually ignore those questions! I try (and usually fail) of adhering to the old advice "If you've got nothing to say, don't say anything at all." This site makes it hard though. Some people are just begging for a beat down. Oh well.

It's good fun to tell them the exact opposite of what they know everybody is going to say in my opinion. most of them are just asking "am I pretty" to confirm the fact that they already know they are.

I've been adding an extra "Other" option to people's questions lately. Before I type my answer I'll write "OTHER:" in my comment if people haven't given that option. Or in this case, maybe I would've put an extra "Get a life you f--kin' attention whore" option.
