It all depends on how you say it and why. If you are truthfully telling them that you don't find them attractive, fine. If you are doing it to tear them down...that isn't right.

If you think someone is ugly, and they ask your honest opinion, just say they don't look amazing but there are a lot of people who look worse, because that is the truth. You can be truthful and not a jerk at the same time. If someone asks if they're ugly, then you have to say yes or no or else avoid the question (like a decent person) but when someone asks if they're attractive then you can word your answer in a way that isn't as dumb as "you're ugly". Seriously, out of all the ways you could word it, you pick "you're ugly"?

Well I am assuming that you found them to be ugly and instead of bypassing the question you had to tell them the truth. That tells me you went out of your way to make sure they knew your truth. And I am sure that hurt them. Aside from that I may have you wrong.

You may be right. People who ask that are usually young and we all know there is a lot of insecurity during those years. They are simply looking for affirmation.

I personally will not respond to those post's unless I can truthfully say they are what they want to hear. If I don't think they are then I simply pass them by. If I know that responding truthfully would hurt them then I see no point in telling them. I do not believe in hurting people simply because I can.

I don't think that is wrong since they did ask you for your opinion. I mean, they should have known that they might not like what you were going to say and have accepted the fact that when they asked a question about what you thought about their looks that not everyone was going to think they're attractive. I do believe in being tactful if I can to someone but if they ask me for my opinion and then they don't like it, well, then, tough because they asked for it! I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so no one is truly ugly, but everyone has different ideas about what constitutes beauty.

A person that asks a question like this, doesn't want a truthful answer. For heavens sake no one is stupid enough to think someone will answer it truthfully. They are insecure and looking forward to your reinforcing them, with heavens no you are sooooo pretty. Really corny choice of answers.

i would tell them their good qualities. and leave it at that. everyone is attractive in their own way. try to look at their positive qualities and thats as far as i would go. maybe tell them it wouldnt hurt to lose a little weight if they are overweight. stuff like that. be tactful not mean.
