Is it okay to be 13 and date a 16 year old?

You could get yourself in some major problems if you decide to have sex.

As you both age, at some point one of you are going to reach adulthood and the other will still be legally regarded as a child/minor. It is illegal for an adult to have sex with a minor and the older could end up in prison and have a record as a sex offender that will follow them for life.

I know it's not right but that'st the way it is. A better solution would be for the law to be re-written that it is not statutory rape if there is less than 4.5 years age difference. This would eliminate say a highschool senior dating a freshman from going to prison.

This difference is not unusual but I've seen no legislative moves in this direction even though in my state, a 17 year old spent some time in prison for having sex with a 14 year old before the ruling was overturned. Regardless, the 17 year old will have a permanent record as a sexual offender that will limit his job opportunities and other things. He will also be on the Sexual Offender Registry for life. That's just not right.

No offense meant, but I think 13's too young to consider "dating". I can appreciate the desire to but it's definitely not a good idea

I personally see NOTHING wrong with this age difference! Of course, people will voice their own opinions, and you have laws regarding age of consent, which differs from state to state. Just be careful! Plus, you're still young! I wouldn't worry about boys right now, then again, you're your own person. You must make your own decision. Like I said..."just be careful!"
