Is it more difficult to buy gifts for women or men?

I hate trying to buy anyone gifts. I'm awful at it.

Especially if it's a non-family woman.

A man can rarely give a women the right gift. It's either too large, too small, the wrong color, not practical, too expensive, too cheap, not her style and the list goes on. Men on the other hand, are easy to buy for. Get them absolutely anything and they will be satisfied. The reason is, is that most men will get whatever they want (for themselves) anyway sooner or later. When it comes to gifts women should never worry about what to give a man. A note to women: Men are not usually very good at understanding your hints so if there is some gift that you would like then make a list including sizes, color and where it can be purchased. Please get over the need to be surprised. Frankly, men want to please you, they just need your help. If you think about it you'll realize that you almost always know what a man wants because he will usually tell you.

It's hard! You don't know what they want, and the only thing that I've given to guys before is colognes, which they must be bored of already.

Have no idea what will make her happy :(

I think it depends on the person how well you know them and what stage of life they're at. I'm very difficult to buy for and uncomfortable receiving gifts unless it's something small and thoughtful.Of course this excludes my sons- those boys owe me

Hard to think of new and fun things for them - shirts, shorts, jeans, slacks - not much creativity there

You just don't understand. Men don't care. Because "you" care about receiving a gift from a loved one, you think that man does too. He doesn't care. Trust me he doesn't care what you give him. As a matter of fact the simpler the better.

I know and that is precisely what makes it hard.

I don't understand. Why would that make it more difficult. (I find it very difficult to use the word "hard" when it comes to what men want). Men don't care so get them anything. A stick of gum for crying out loud. You're the only one that cares... he doesn't.

Men dont know what they want.. girls know what they want, they want whatever they find pretty:)

I certainly find the men in my life harder to buy for.

Why?

Well, for my husband (now an ex) it used to be difficult because he bought himself anything he wanted anyway and I remember gifts that fell flat. My dad and my brother are largely into computers and I don't know enough about what they want or need or would like as it is over my head. None of the men in my life like non-practical things. None of them wear cologne. I usually get my dad a gift certificate to buy a book of his choice. He reads non-fiction so I rarely choose a book for him.

My brother and I now give money to Plan Canada and buy some family a goat or some chickens.

My teenaged son is happy with cash though he rarely spends it.

Why? Buy them anything. It doesn't matter to men. It only matters to you. Men don't care.

I'm assuming that you are female and that's why you are confused.. Well I am a male. I also know a lot of other men and I can tell you that it is true. As a matter of fact most men would just as soon do away with gift giving, and receiving, altogether.

That's true.

Because you are a female I can understand your confusion. From a female perspective giving and receiving gifts is very important to you. I understand that. However you are projecting that same feeling on to a man. I am telling you that men don't care. Some people believe in God and they think that everyone else does too, or at least should. Some people are conservative and they believe that other people should think like them and can't understand it when those people don't. Some people are liberal and have the same problem as conservatives. Because you or I like something doesn't mean that others do no matter how important that is to us. Thanks for your reply.

as a man and I can say that I am offended when I am gifted junk. I dont expect or demand expensive or high quality items but I dont want piles of crap in my home that I know that I will never use.

Some of the things I have asked for and been dissapointed by not getting:
1) a zester
2) Purple socks....yes, I like purple
3) Blue socks and I mean BLUE not navy which might as well be Black
4) A specific book or game

Some of the things I have recieved which were dissapointing:
1) navy blue socks
2) key chains
3) Ties that are so ugly they would have even been out of style in the 70's
4) knick nacks......
5) stuffed animals...
6) musical stuffed animals
7) dancing musical stuffed animals
8) clothes, no I dont like baby blue old man golfing shorts.....
9) charlie brown shirts
10) any sort of generic candy which is not expressly a favorite
11) the wrong book or game
12) power tools....If I want it (or need it), I will buy it

Women are more intelligent and require something nice. Men are easy to buy for.

You may be right. Women may be more intelligent but they are also more demanding and more picky than a man and much harder to please, much harder to please, than a man. Men don't care about gifts. We don't need them to be satisfied like the intelligent woman does.:)

My wife and I have decided to forgo gift giving in our lives. It makes one part of life a little easier. When my wants or needs something she just goes and gets it. The same for me. I believe that she is a s pleased about that as I am.
