First off define intelligence. From my perspective we are no smarter than the dinosaurs. A big rock from deep space comes and wipes them out with a few exceptions we now call birds. Ever hear of the term Bird Brain? Some birds even talk and actually carry a conversation of sorts. So, with that out of the way, let's look at how other species on the planet interact with their environment. Then consider that planets are deadly to live long term as they evolve. Think of the fact that 99.99% of all live ever to exist on this planet is extinct. Then consider how we are further extinguishing species at a rate not seen since the last days of the dinosaurs. So, we are digging our own grave. One thing we can do with our intelligence other species can't do is build the machines that could carry us off of this rock and allow us to utilize the entire solar system for resources. Our planet could once again be a garden spot. It's just we'd limit population to 500,000 people, and everyone else lives elsewhere in our solar system. Then as that technology develops, we can send colonies outward into the cosmos as multi generational ships, which would also allow us to further evolve and have our species radiate into various lines that evolve in isolation of one another for tens of th...
Then as that technology develops, we can send colonies outward into the cosmos as multi generational ships, which would also allow us to further evolve and have our species radiate into various lines that evolve in isolation of one another for tens of thousands of years, each group evolving into a unique species. One thing we do know, dinosaurs survived the KT as birds, but they had radiated into so many species, survival was virtually assured due to sheer number. Realize there are 7000 species of birds on the planet now, a few thousand more species than mammals have evolved since the death of the great dinosaurs. So, staying on this rock is a certain death sentence, so how intelligent are we really?
We generally equate intelligence with a brain. Not all life has a brain. But in all life, once alive, there is freedom, in the pursuit of survival; otherwise, there will be no life. This is part of the Laws of Nature. Since we have life, during the enlightenment era Jefferson’s polished version became “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” a.k.a. our Unalienable Rights. Later Charles Darwin discovered evolution through the Natural Selection Process, which is simply an outgrowth of life’s Unalienable Rights. Evolution includes extinction and extinction happens everyday here on earth. Humans are not immune to the Laws of Nature and one day our extinction, or “the destruction of our living planet” will happen whether it is from intelligence or not. A good book on this subject is “Scientific Proof of our Unalienable Rights, a Road to Utopia,” by Takac.
Well, if we can create machines to travel space and we can access those resources rather than what is held on Earth, for the short term we could do well, but in no time at all, that too will fall apart. To only way for humanity to escape extinction is to continue to evolve with we cannot do on this rock because there are no real isolated populations concentrating useful genes. They are all spread out today and with how we keep people alive at any cost, and the numbers reaching 7+ billion, for someone to have that one in a billion trait means there are 7 people who have it for sure. For that one in a million, there are 7000 people, for the one in 10,000 we have 70,000. You can keep going, the rare becomes common. Problem is, if you take a maze of rats and provide endless food and water, they will over populate like we do. Once we cut off the resources to bear minimum, they started doing what we'd do. Start killing each other, brother against brother, mother against child, cannibalism too. Until there was virtually no rats left.
We simply do not know how the end will happen. Up to this point, humanity’s “intelligence” about the physical universe, aided by the tool known as the scientific method, concludes that nothing last forever, even our universe will one day come to an end. My recommendation is for one not to concern themselves with something that is outside one’s reach, but try to make one’s brief time of existence count for future generations in the pursuit of their Happiness, as the one’s did before us; in the advancement of technology, food production, and medicine the stables of human existence throughout the world today.
Agreed, but it is those who are in power, the so called elite, who dictate how things run through those that they support. The thing here is, so far the dinosaurs seem to be smarter than us based on your assertions. The thing is, unless we get off of this rock ad expand into the rest of the solar system, we may as well be dinosaurs, becase we, like them, will go extinct in a very short amount of time.
We are ahead of the dinosaurs and we are exploring space. As for “those who are in power,” you make that decision come this November. Remember, we now have to rely on the Russians to get a man in space; complements to the Obama administration.
Mike, I am glad you still believe our votes matter. The vote is rigged and has been since 1980. Obama wins 56/44, watch mark it down and then when it is declared you can go nuts. Or you can act now and demand trackable Paper ballots that you check mark like in grade school tests. Then they are certified by citizens with cameras that record the entire event at every voting station in America. That is the ONLY way we will have an honest election where we choose. The international banksters like their lap dog.
Hang in there my Friend and go vote. It’s not over yet. Many are trying to improve the system starting with voter ID laws. Things move slowly in a Republic.
Voter ID laws, what's next National IDs like the former Soviets had, or the current Chinese? How about chipping people, that way they can simply be turned on and off at will by some government agent? The key here is, we are now a complete POLICE STATE. We are living in Augustinian times.
If you do not like the current “POLICE STATE” you are in, vote with you feet and move to another place where you will find the pursuit of Happiness as many immigrants did, and are still doing, by moving to the United States. You may try to change the “STATE” by supporting those of your kind, for there is strength in numbers while voting for representation in our Republic. Complaining about it will not help as you are running out of time, as in all life, there is a finite time to live. Perhaps, you may change your disposition by accepting your plight and seek happiness as a state of tranquility, which depends upon harmony with the interactions of those who are close to you. Put aside those objectives that are beyond your control, the ones that are causing you grief.
Yeah, running away helps, eh? Why not FIGHT to KEEP our LIBERTY!? The ignorant masses and the intentional effort to keep the masses ignorant is the issue here. You may LIKE a POLICE STATE, but my homeland let that happen once. Do you know what it's like growing up being called a Nazi for having an accent? Now you couldn't tell where I was from. I prefer freedom with risk than a police state where you are "protected" because if that's what I want I'd commit a crime to put in jail, because that's where you have everything you want, food, shelter, free medical care and all you have to do is as they tell you to do. In prisons you have to prove your identity everywhere, all the time. Sound familiar?
Very good, “FIGHT to KEEP our LIBERTY.” The “FIGHT” I’m engaged in is to bring front and center the discussion of our Unalienable Rights back to the surface of human reasoning. There is an effort in the UN and in many power broker circles to squelch such reasoning through educational and media indoctrination. Again, I refer you back to the recent published book “Scientific Proof of Our Unalienable Rights, a Road to Utopia,” by Takac.
Well, Mike, you need a hand, please let me know. No single person can do it all, but several of us can change the world for the positive. They are making an effort to create a global civilization that would rival Rome's.
Thanks Tom, A good place to start is to read Takac’s book and tell everyone about it. The book is new, is an easy read, and revisits our Unalienable Rights through the prism of science. The book proves our Unalienable Rights are part of the Laws of Nature and not manmade. As I said earlier, there is an effort in the UN and in many power broker circles, including some in the US, to squelch the concept of our Unalienable Rights and replacing them with the concept where our rights are privileges from the state. I could only imagine, once this book gets around, will become a nightmare for those power brokers.
Nice thing is over time, nothing stays the same and revolution is what comes to every government's door step at some point of its existence. This happens to be one of those times.
Man can travel in space, but not very far. The moon was only a vacation. Mars is out of reach, unless we offer condemned prisoners a one way trip to colonize Mars.
This is a great question. Perhaps living now doesn't give us the perspective to answer it very well. We use our intelligence to live our lives as they are right now.. But we don't know how intelligence will affect mankind on a long term scale. We can't even use the intelligence we have to pick the correct leaders who will help us make live good RIGHT NOW. Man has the intelligence to know how to destroy this planet too, or how to preserve life on Earth. We have to look at how intelligence is used over great spans of time. I try on a daily basis, to use my intelligence to help me survive. I hope my child will use his even more successfully than I have. But he has learned from me and from others. I know this is a long answer, but this is a tough question. It deserves a lot of thought.
As always, it depends on how you use your intelligence that determins what it's worth to mankind is.
Many use their intelligence to corrupt the system for their own personal gain while others use their intelligence to push the human race forward.
Just because your smart does not mean your a good person, it only means you can manipulate situations to make others lives miserable.
There are plenty of intelligent people in prison!
