Many people may be Christian but as far as a Christian country goes it is not. We are not supposed to be a country that makes its laws according to any religion and it is supposed to be against the law to force someone to do something or not be allowed to do something because of any religion.
I, personally view America as a country of independence. A cultural melting pot. Despite the large percentage of Christian Practitioners (I am included in that percentage) the country cannot be counted as completely Christian due to the varying belief systems. That's what makes our country beautiful, the differences we have yet similarities we share. It's what I love about this country. Such vast and differing opinions...if we all spoke and thought with the same mind then we wouldn't be quite so colorful. And I for one, believe in some color : )
The Untied States is not a Christian nation but has a population predominately of a Christian faith. Our laws and Constitution are based on the ideals of a Judo/Christian morality.
Mostly Christian but there are other religions and people are free to pick their religion. However i do believe that if we were all Christians then maybe America would be a better place.
No, and it never has been. THe people in it may be predominantly Christian, but that doesn't make the nation as a whole Christian. We are a secular nation and were designed to be from the start.
We are a secular nation.
Our population contains a majority of christians. We allegedly welcome all faiths but some of the christians are trying to change that. Happily our secular constitution will prevent them from succeeding.
I'm Christian, and I think I'm the only one in my church who realizes we were never founded off of Christianity, but rather backstabbing, lying and betrayal and murder. The ones who said they wanted to spread the gospel were L-Y-I-N-G
That doesn't make us a Christian nation, any more than having a majority of white people here, makes us a white nation, or having a majority of women, makes us a female nation.
And your point is exactly what?? I do not recall saying what you just did or are you just someone else on here that starts arguments?? I said that a majority leans towards Christianity
And I'm saying that that doesn't make us a Christian nation. The whole point of this nation was to allow and even encourage diversity. When you call us a Christian nation, you say that the 15% (and growing) who are NOT Christian, don't count. Nobody is denying that you make up the majority, and I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with that. I'm only saying that we are a secular nation, the fabric of which is made up of every religion, as well as by those of us who have no religion. And John Adams agreed.
What is it with people on here?!! I said no such thing and yet all you want to do is keep running your mouth....my god take a breahter will you!!! Pfffft!!!!
The question was "is America a Christian country?" You answered "yes". I get, now, that this is not really your position. Maybe you misread the question, or hit the wrong answer. I ran my mouth, based upon the answer you gave. I'm glad you didn't mean it. Moving on now.
That doesn't make us a Christian nation, any more than having a majority of white people here, makes us a white nation, or having a majority of women, makes us a female nation.
73%Christian!
12%Catholic!
In addition there are over 150 variations of the Christian belief in the U.S; from Methodist to Mormonism.
We are a nation of many kinds of people, many of them Christian, but our diversity is not overshadowed by the majority.
Our population contains a majority of christians. We allegedly welcome all faiths but some of the christians are trying to change that. Happily our secular constitution will prevent them from succeeding.
