I have a dog, a cat I only see when she's hungry and another cat who whines like a bitch whenever anyone goes near here.

Outside cat 'Maka" wants in, but just for a quick visit, then bolts out the door.

My cat was declawed. Also, she is 15 years old. I wouldn't want to see her get chased by a dog or hit by a car. Life for outside cats in my neighborhood is rough- I don't exactly live on a farm. I like to see her curled up at the foot of my bed.

I adopted her when I was a kid and a cat had kittens under my house. After I took her in she had never been outside before.

I am opposed to having cats live outside- unless one lives on a farm or another relatively safe area for the cat to live.

She's an indoor cat. However, I live in a 2nd floor apartment with a porch so she gets to go sun herself on the porch and watch the birds and squirrels. I'm lucky because my apartment faces private property with big Magnolia and Oak trees.

Inside. Even tho both came from outside-they never have shown any interest in going out and that's what I'd prefer. No chance encounters with demented teens, no fights or getting hit by cars.

Just as long as it isn't an inside out cat.

I have one of each and a third cat that can't make up her mind. They are all rescues.

At this stage, I would prefer outside for the cats 'cause both myself & my daugther are allergic to cats. I also don't like the furs all over everywhere. I especially hate it when the cats crawl under/above anywhere (table, cabinet, bed, fridge, etc) which I don't make sure it's clean all the time, & then the cats will get on the sofa/bed/me germs. I also hate the litter box in the house, so dirty/smelly with germs. I won't mind it inside if I've a fulltime maid who make sure to clean the house at every corners everyday, & also to wipe down the cats' furs all the time, I really hate it when its saliva is all over its body.

I am a dog person and he is like a member of the family. If I ever have another cat, I would rather have an outdoor cat because the smell of a litter box is horrible. And the cat will get in there and kick around and then go and jump on your counter top. UGH!

Neither of my little buddies seem to want to go outside. That's fine with me. They'll live longer and won't contract any diseases they can catch from going outside.

My cat was really fat and depressed and just sat by the door trying to escape and looking longingly out of the window, So now she is an outdoor cat. She is at a healthy weight, cleans herself and is a much happier kitty :D

Cats are happy inside. They show a lot of affection. I read that outside cats have a life expectancy of five years and an inside cat has a life expectancy of about twenty years.

We've had both through the years. Used to have the nightly "cat toss" when it was bed time.(as they always waited 'til you're almost asleep to scratch on the blinds to get out and never two at the same time, besides the wife got tired). They're all inside cats this so as to protect them from the world. We protect the guard dogs too. (a male and female German shepherds) A burglar would have to step over the dogs sleeping in bedroom door way. Now we can't leave home for 2 days without a baby sitter. dogs sleeping bedroom door leave home 2 days baby sitter

We lost an inside/outside cat to a rare blood disease (98% fatal in domestic cats) passed on by bobcats (which we have in this area), so we keep our cat inside. She has no interest in going outside (those loves to look out the window).

See this kitty in the picture? He is a Snow Bengal. Very expensive. He only goes outside supervised in an enclosure that we built just for our cats. Even if your cat is not a purebred, I don't believe in letting them run loose in the neighborhood. Not good for kitty, annoying for neighbors. Only good if you live on a farm/ranch.

My block as about 5 cats that roam around and during the summer they are out most of the night, all of them are very friendly and there are no mice whatsoever in my block anymore.

I could see that, I'm not saying it is necessarily a bad thing. In many urban and suburban neighborhoods however, there are more than a few "cat haters" who go out of their way to injure or kill cats for no other reason than they hate them. These same people would never think of doing this to a stray dog or even a wild animal. Plus, statistically, cats that are kept from roaming and cared for live significantly longer than cats that are feral or even pets that are allowed to roam. It's not wrong to let a cat roam at night because let's face it, they love to do it, it's just that it is a calculated risk.

These cats are well known in the block, very friendly, and hunt mice in their spare time. People in my block look out for the cats, as every second house seems to have a cat.

    This is my cat...

She's both. We let her do whatever she wants. Sometimes if she's been out a while I keep her in, sometimes she willingly wants in. On long trips we leave her out because nature is her litter box lol

I had a cat, and kept him outside. He followed us through three moves. Whenever we moved, we moved to a house that had enough trees so that he could sharpen his claws and--get this--climb up and climb back down. He climbed trees, but never got stuck in them. (He came to us as a stray at the age of six months.)

He lived to the ripe old age of twenty. Then he walked out on the high road, and got clipped by a passing car and died instantly. What a way to go! The animal wardens found him without a mark on him.

Ah ... the bliss of self-inflicted ignorance. Sure is nice to depend on that all your life, isn't it. How many days before the animal wardens found him? How many days did your cat lie there gasping for air, slowly and torturously dying from internal injuries? Or maybe your cat got into some antifreeze or rat poison and just happened to slowly suffer to death as it wandered while its brain was being destroyed and finally collapsed where they found it. I've had to shoot hundreds of stray cats in the past. I often couldn't find the entry wound. Not even a spot of blood. What a way to go, eh? People like you should be locked up in prison for life for all the laws that define animal-abandonment, animal-endangerment, animal-neglect, animal-cruelty, and all invasive-species laws. If you happened to move near where I live, then consider your cat dying from a bullet lodged in it somewhere.
