Make sure you want to do this under the current administration. My advise would be to wait till a real patriot governs this country. Not a marxist.

Normally this posting would elicit a good for you response, but in light of today's times I just say watch your self. You may be asked to do things immoral and unethical and even more scary be implanted with an RFID chip.

Well I won't be 18 until 2014 but I won't ever be able to talk to you for the six weeks of boot camp.

Because I want to travel a lot and learn new skills. I also want to save money for college. I also want to serve my country.

Fair enough. I want to travel too but I'm thinking of going with the journalism route. Maybe we'll run into each other somewhere :D

Don't wait, get your name on the wait list ahead of time.

Many are joining up due the jobs outlook prospects.

Many will be turned down because of coming downsizing.

    Some branches are already filled.

Think long & hard about the job. Talk to recruiters, ask to see the MOS book, if they have one. They should. Visit reserve units & talk to the different specialists.

All can be rewarding, some are better for bringing a skill back to civilian life.

Good Idea, you wont like the first 2 or 3 months, but it will get easier.I would suggest that getting fit would be a great idea before you go in.

Which brance of service son? I'm a former WAR VETERAN that served in the US Army. Joining the military was probably the BEST choice I made in my life.

If I were your mom I would be very proud of you, and very worried. Think on this a little longer before you decide to do this. 18 is still very young to make such a big decision.

Good advice, but remember... I served honorably in the United States Army and it was the BEST experience in my life. I didn't like going to war, but I enjoyed serving my country!
