I would bring it to their attention. About 30 years ago I had Simular situation. I kept getting a notice from a bank that I had 300 dollars in a savings account with them. I was in the military at the time so when I finally got home on leave I went to see them and explained I closed that account out and were they sure it was my money because I had no recollection of it. They insisted it was mine after supposedly checking so I said ok and cash it out. A year later they found their mistake and wanted it back. I laughed and said sorry but I gave u ample opportunity to fix th mistake. I was living paycheck to paycheck back then. Today I would probably pay it back though I felt under the circumstances I had no need to.

Notify them. Down the road when they do an internal audit and they discover the overpayment they'll come after the money. If you've spent it, it's considered theft and you'd most likely be charged with a felony. Not worth the risk.

Call the bank and point out the error. If you spend it they will demand it back with interest.

Immediately inform them. A) I live a principled, ethical life. B) It's not like it isn't going to catch up to you. It's a digital trail. Don't be an idiot.

Well, I sure wouldn't spend it.

I found a bunch of cash in an ATM once that someone apparently couldn't figure out how to extract. I notified the bank and law enforcement (after hours issues).

If it was clear that it was a bank error I would report it and get it resolved quickly; it isn't your money and it will only come back to bite you if you don't.

However, I once had this happen where we were about $700 up in a business account and could not explain it. After reporting it to the bank we simply ignored the money for a couple of years. When the bank did nothing we finally spent the money assuming that either the banks book keeping dept had written it off or that it must have been our own accounting error in the first place.

Being as I'm very honest I would tell them after a while they are bound to find out anyway and I don't want any bank official asking why I didn't say anything and then having to pay that money back. That would be so embarrassing for me.

I'd let them know of the error. A few folks who took the money and ran (or spent it) have been indicted, and lost more than they thought they'd been given accidentally.

They would have that account locked down at the speed of light. Have you ever noticed that mistakes always work against you and never in your favor. Thats no accident.
