When we see pictures of Prince Harry horsing around like this on the polo field, it's hard to imagine Prince William ever doing the same. But then he is the heir to the throne and Harry, being "The Spare," doesn't have the same responsibility or weight to carry that William has.

When Harry and William were younger, I felt bad for Harry being the "spare". He didn't seem to get the attention that William did. But now, I see Harry living large and not having to have the responsibility of being King on his shoulders one day (well, most likely not anyway). And I think I'd much rather be in his shoes now....

I don't think I'd want all the responsibility that comes with being the heir. I'd rather get all the fringe benefits (which I'm sure they do) w/o the the high expectations that others have of the heirs. It's easier and much more relaxing to be able to be "yourself" than to have to put on a game face all the time and have to make sure that all you do is prim and proper for your title. What a pain in the ass that would be.

I think I'd prefer to be "the spare". The heir tends to have more restrictions and responsibilities, and yet both brothers, these brothers at least, live about equally good lives I think. It's a better deal from what I can tell to not be the heir.

Harry, bless his soul, is his OWN person, definitely not the spare. He'd be perfectly 'qualified' to take over the monarchy. It is BECAUSE he more closely in line for the throne, that William needs to act more 'kingly.' Harry, a bit more removed, has the liberty/luxury to BE Harry.

There should have been other choices to this question. Both would be privileged lives and both come with positives and negatives. I think in the end, and using Diana's boys as a the example, I would have rather been the eldest and had the gift of knowing my mother longer. William seems like a lovely, kind young man, while Harry is a bit of an imp. I think to get the attention he became the wild one. Also, he was subject to rumors about his parentage due to the fact that his older brother clearly looks more like his mother. I can't imagine that either has had a normal life and they both must wish for some privacy at one time or another. Still.....they both have a good life so other than the loss of their precious mother, they have survived well. In the words of Mel Brooks, "It's good to be the king!"

Being King comes with a boatload of stress. Most of your privacy is thrown out the window, any relationship problems become fodder for the media, not knowing whether friends are truly in your life because of who you are inside or because of that title that you hold.

I'd rather be the carefree and happy person that Harry is over that any day.
