I did. I see them (happened twice at the same store, different clerks) all the time and know they would have to pay the shortage out of their pocket.

They've both been very nice to me.

I would still do it even if I didn't know the person. Wired that way I guess.

Hey I'll be totally honest like I always am... times are tough, even a couple of pounds more would make a difference for me! Plus I'm rubbish with numbers and may well not even realise!

You do realize that the clerk could lose their jobs and/or have it taken out of their pay right? The store isn't the one hurt. The store is going to get their money back one way or the other. That clerk that made the mistake is the one hurt.

Even if they made a mistake I'd give it back.

I worked as a clerk before. I wouldn't want them to get fired over it. Maybe they are just learning or having an "off" day.

I would feel bad keeping it.

Most of the time i dont even look at the change. They should be smart enough to give the exact amount back. So i trust them.
But i would if i knew.

Funny thing happen to me once at a Sam's Store.... we bought large amount of special candy..... clerk count it incorrectly.... vastly in incorrectly... after the third try to get her to correct it.... we gave up... paid what she punched up on her machine...and moved on...

what can one do? bark

They gave it to me its mine. If they didn't I wouldn't just take it, or if they realized it and asked for it back I would return it.

it happened once. I got a soda and gave them a 10. They must of thought it was a 20. I didn't notice it until I got to the next station which was two states away, so there was no way I could take it back. I donated it instead.

I feel that nothing should be wasted. Here, you have a person who has to deal with hundreds, probably thousands, of lifting items and wasting brain cells over your well-being. The best you could do is give back money so he/she may have a little more money to pay for his family's needs.

The Cashier Drawers are checked when they are brought out and checked when they are brought back .. I'd feel really sick knowing that the extra this clerk mistakenly gave me would be putting the drawer in imbalance (and getting the clerk into trouble too).

This has happened to me more than once. I also nearly got an item fro free as the cashier thought it was mine already and didn't realise I was buying it. Not only is it stealing to keep the money, the cashier can get into big trouble and have to make up the difference out of their pay.

If I noticed it, I would give the money back. First off it's the right thing to do. Secondly the cashier could lose their job if the cash register comes up short from such a mistake.
